Can it be done? If so, how?

My favorite music I have thus far found apparently only exists in .mid form, and my Ipod doesn't accept .mid files.

You can convert anything you can play in Winamp (including midi) to mp3 using the out_lame Winamp plugin (requires lame_enc.dll).
