Did anyone else find the story unnecessarily long and filled with excessive blank space?

Only took me one night to read, so I didn't think it was bad at all. I dunno. I'm usually not too picky on the mango I read as long as it holds my interest all the way through. Otherwise, it gets dropped.

No, it took me one night to finish too, but I found there was a lot of frames that just did nothing or just zero progress through the story for several chapters.

No knowledge on the anime...
But the manga didn't seem too sad.
I use Grave of the FireFlies as my marker though.

I actually found out about the anime, then went into the manga. I loved the anime, but the manga just went into greated depth and it covered so much more.
