New idea
#1
So I have an idea to make a version of MS from scratch. This means no existing maps, NPCs, classes, equips, items, monsters, quests, and things like that. I'm thinking about reusing some of the pots though, because it's already good. Other things that will remain are: game mechanics, game functions (chat, guild, free market, etc), and others I can't think of at the moment.

Please comment on this idea.

That's gonna be a lot of work.
Do you plan on going all the way on this idea?

Right now I'm trying to make the training area first, then I will expand it to more areas and include 1st job advancement. All these will be done in the "test server", and I will release an official patch after I get enough content. Expect first test server patch this month. After I post it I'll see if I still want to continue or not.

It's too vague for me to comment.

So how are you doing this? Private server except with a completely different Data.wz?

One of the biggest appeals of MS is the art, so I dunno how well that would work out. I'd rather see a completely different game with a completely different engine, with only the 2d platformer aspect intact.

Thought of this. But in order for it to be actually good enough for people to play it, you'd have to have a lot of people, skills, and hours. Tongue

Not to mention, if you don't edit the client (Maplestory.exe) or make your own, what you'll be able to do (especially concerning jobs and skills) becomes very limited.

- Oh, and the server code as well. Heh...

I'm not literally 'making' the game. It's just ideas.

OK another idea. I let people sign up for test server. If they get selected I will PM them for confirmation. Then only those people will see the contents I'm 'testing' by PM. When I release 'official' version, it's a thread so everyone can see.

One big problem: if there is not enough participants, I will just post the 'test' patches in threads.
