Age Limit on smoking Legal substances?

I like how everyone saying it should be stricter is probably unaware that drunk driving accidents are pretty low in europe where there is no drinking age.

I laughed. Have you ever been to Europe? In Sweden, you're not allowed to drink before you're 20. In Norway, 18. And so forth.

A series of questions around the limits of cigarettes:
-Do you believe there should be a set age limit on smoking legal substances?
-A ban on tobacco products?
-A ban on youth advertising on cigarettes?

- There are in Norway already. (Besides, there is a set limit everywhere, right?)
- There are (to some extent) in Norway already.
- There's not even allowed to advertise smoke/alcohol in Norway!

I'd be more interested in seeing:
Marijuana legalized
or
Alcohol made illegal

Reasoning -
Marijuana, while having judgement impairing and brain-damaging side effects, does nothing worse to the user than alcohol would, and is non-addictive. It has medical benefits, and generally results in a relaxed, muchy-craving personality.

Alcohol, on the other hand, can have wildly varying affects on mood and personality, is highly addictive, has limited to no medical benefits (discounting mild consumption of wine), and can cause severe damage to your kidneys.

If alcohol is legal, marijuana has no reason not to be...

Taiwan recently banned smoking in most places, most places except home that is. I was surprised, but it's a good step towards stopping smoking. I've always hated it and I am against it, but I guess it depends on which view you are standing from.

Even though it is a legal age limit in the United States, I think it should be enforced more. A couple of years ago I had a really close guy friend who picked up smoking. I eventually stopped associating with him due to him just smoking around me everywhere. One time he even had the guts to ask me to buy filters for his smoking.

There should be no advertisements about tobacco products in youth, period. Of course, we can't really stop it. If anyone reads the manga Nana, I'm sure you're aware of the constant...smoking that never stops in it. Sure I love the series, but the smoking just gets to me. It's directed at a more mature women audience, but still.

And I don't think there should be a "LET'S BAN ALL SMOKING". After all, some people depend on the business. It should be like Taiwan, where smoking is banned in most places.

Legalizing marijuana reminds me of China and the Opium Wars.

The 20s had issues when Alcohol was illegalized. How would we prevent that from happening again? xP

There is a difference.

Drunk driving accidents are called that for a reason.

As much as I would love to just ban smoking to make it go away, it doesn't work that way. Just look at the disaster that was Prohibition. If you ban something, you lose the power to regulate its sale.

However, cigarettes need to be regulated more heavily, and taxes need to be increased. More of this tax money needs to go in anti-smoking education programs.

Where did you get these "magic facts?
My main point is such: lets say you start drinking and smoking at age 5.
And you want to quit at age 15.
Smoking withdrawal is annoying. (you can get quite cranky and hungry)
Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal. (you will hallucination, have Grand mal seizures, strokes, and heart attacks)

So please stop telling me how bas smoking is and how helpful drinking is.

Hell, I'm sick and having surgery thus haven't smoked for a month and I'm starving all day long.

Also I have anxiety attacks and this rampant need of smoking a fucking cigarette...

But I, from the smoker side, think it's perfect to ban smoking indoors and in public places. Whereas I also believe that people that smoke don't deserve the treating they get because a lot of them have issues regarding health, and need medical assistance. As for second hand smoking, you people who have problems with your relatives that smoke you should talk to them and approach them not with a moralist speech but with a comprehensive and understanding one. WE HATE BEING TOLD SMOKING IS BAD FOR OUR HEALTH, qe already know and feel its effects all the time.

Lastly, I must say that age 18 is a reasonable age for choosing what to do, whether it involves smoking and drinking or not. Anyhow, I live in a country where smoking and drinking is socially accepted so I don't have many troubles...

I realize that, and realize that it would be irrational/impossible to do so. Just think logically it would make more sense/be more cohesive.

I smoke but I agree that smoking in building's is kinda nasty. I don't smoke around non-smoker's because I'm considerate for them. I don't smell like smoke because I smoke outside at all times. Michigan just tried to pass a law to ban smoking in bars/restaurants but it didn't pass. I actually wish that it would of passed. Maybe in a few years

Isn't 18 a good enough age to be able to buy cigarette's?
