I don't like a particular style of music, but I must say that there are great songs in video games.

For example, Mario Galaxy music is simply awesome.

What I like is that video game music is made to give a particular feeling... At least most of the times.

Video Game music is awesome! But it's because it's mostly techno which is my favorite kind of music.

My favourite kind is variety . I just added that example, but go check other games that fit in less places, like Rayman (the original), Mercury Meltdown, the original Sonic music, F-Zero (GC one is my favourite)...

I don't like video game music for 3 reasons (That don't necessarily apply to all of them):

1. I don't like techno/electronica for the most part.
2. Most music from video games that are genres that I actually do listen to are horribly dull, like the music that psychopat posted (No offense, psychopat). Distorted power chords, lol.
3. I rarely ever play video games besides Brawl occasionally.

None taken. My point is that those versions are much more interesting than the old 8-bit versions that I grew up with. Nostalgia plays a big factor

That said, I don't think you chose your words correctly. The ones up there are not dull because they're upbeat, catchy, etc... While I detest things like Nelly, for example, I can't go as far as calling his stuff dull for the same reason. You may not like them and that's fine. I even agree that they're pretty simplistic and easy to play.

The only time I'd consider those dull would be if they were viewed purely from a musical analysis point of view...

Well, when I say dull, I mean I'd heard it a hundred times before. That and heavily distorted power chords don't sound much different.

For some reason, I'm partial to a few Sonic songs. Most of it is worthless garbage, but some actually work. (usually boss battles)

Call of Duty 5 has good music, especially in Nazi Zombie mode and after the credits.

Sonic's music can be good... Open your heart is amazing!

Also, if you can find the Nintendo made guitar arange of F-Zero X.... its about the best video game music you can find! I'm a rather big fan of almost any kind of video game music ;P I've even got Phoenix Wright's soundtrack on my cellphone =D
