That was during the first massive outbreak of No Delay and HT hackings. Wasn't too long after that when they completely stopped logging in.

When was the actual last time a GM logged in and said anything to us? I think it would make them look much better if they started to do banned notices again, maybe not for every single player because of ad bots, but for characters they ban that they catch for botting or something.

Even if they are logging in, they should definitely actually try to communicate with us. That would make Nexon seem like they actually care about their damn game.

According to people on Nexon Forums, GMs are to have limited contact to players without a higher level's approval.

I never participate in these events. Too worried about lag.

"Limited" is a value word and can mean a lot of things - how much exactly is "limited?" Talk to random people every once in a while? Never deliberately show your face? Pop up every time you can except in certain situations? Seems like all the GMs got let go, to be honest. The last GM appearance I know of was when one of them popped up to apologize for Australia's fucked up 2x event.

And if I were a higher-up (cue eyerolls), I'd definitely let GMs get at the community and actually try to get to know them, because Nexon just seems way too disconnected nowadays. It seems like they don't give half a pomegranate about anything going on in their game (hence rage smegas like below?)

But GM-hosted events are definitely an improvement over no discernible GM presence. Maybe they actually took something away from the last focus group meeting.

MrTouchnGo Wrote:This hasn't happened yet? There has been no perceivable GM presence in this game since I don't even know. :f6:
Uh... there NEVER was a perceived presence. Used to be that they'd occasionally manually ban hackers, but you'd still never really see them. They did do events sometimes, and may have even allowed themselves to be spotted occasionally outside of events, but the events were terrible and rare, and not really indicative of what a GM's presence should be: invisible police.

Players should never see a GM. Players shouldn't even talk to them. They don't need to. They just need to know that the GMs are there by the GMs making an impact, an impact of ensuring that people who should be banned get banned.

GMs should make an impact, but it SHOULD be invisible. If not, they'll have players stalking them and bothering them when they should be doing work. It's not a GMs job to talk to you. It's a GMs job to police the game. All that should be expected of them is doing their job as police. If they can do ban notices like they used to, that would be nice, but players should demand to be able to interact with the GMs.

I disagree. While I do agree that GMs should use most of their time to police the game, I believe that they should take some time off that to get to know the community, with all its contents and discontents. This would allow Nexon to actually know how the community feels about different things and respond appropriately (regarding events, etc.).

I don't really play any other MMOs from different companies (only played Runescape like twenty centuries ago, lol), so I can't say with any relativity that "Nexon is doing a terrible job of keeping in touch with its player base," but I do know that Jagex responded to its community's reprisal on game changes such as the Wilderness removal and acted upon their feedback appropriately. On hindsight, it does seem that a lot of the player disconnect regarding content dissatisfaction stems from the fact that GMS leeches off of KMS for content and Nexon can't do very much that won't be undone whenever they copy/pasta the next patch.

Nexon is very big on GM "impartiality" and "objectivity", which they maintain by minimizing contact with "the natives".
If a GM got friendly with a player, he might use his powers to help that player (for example, by "getting rid of ks'ers" - without knowing whether the player really was in that map first), and that won't do.
Recall that they forbade the MWLB to police their own worlds, for the same reason.

Of course the result is that GMs know nothing and care about nothing. While "everyone in Scania" (or any other world) knows who their major hackers and dupers are, and where the botters nest, and which shops have stolen gear, Nexon remains ignorant. If GMs are online when hacked items are smega'ed, they don't know enough about the game to even recognize these items as impossible.

But who cares? The important thing is that they show no favoritism.

Why can't Maple GMs be like the Jmods in Runescape?

 Spoiler

Nowadays, Jmods wouldn't show up in f2p, but they still make an appearance from time to time, or for players making great accomplishments (like one guy having 200 exp to 99 in all skills, two Jmods showed up for the huge 99 party. or when a Jmod accompanied wooox16 when he went to try soloing Nex for the first time).

Outside of lolGMevents, name one time GMs past 2007 showed up to help out or prove their worth?

(I'm not counting Runescape Classic, much the same that I'm not counting Maple from before 2007, when GMs were more abundant than in Pservers)

Although I can see where you're coming from (and I agree that they need to be impartial), getting to know the community does not cause favoritism - it simply means that they know what the community as a whole thinks about certain things. Speaking of impartiality, I'd like to bring up Basil mods (inb4 comments about Basil). I come into contact with three of them somewhat often, and I believe they consider me their friend (or two of them, at least - I have one on my BL, and one frequents the forum I post on a lot). Yet when I PM them explaining why a certain suspension is invalid, they counter-explain the validity of the suspension, and the suspension holds.

Here's what I think - GMs should appear human.

You know that police officers in the real world are always there, you know that you can find them if you need them, and you know you can talk to them if you have a problem. With GMs, you have no idea if they're there, you have no idea where you can find them if you need them (because, let's face it - the ticket system is extremely impersonal as well as complete bullpomegranate), and if you don't know where to find them, how are you supposed to talk to them?

It's about communication and the effect of GMs on the community - knowing that GMs are there makes us feel like Nexon is putting in the effort to ban hackers and that they're actually trying to keep the game clean.

The crimson balrogs they summoned this time actually dropped cards. Last time they must have spawned fake versions or something.

Doesn't seem like they did much in Khaini, or if they did I didn't pay attention.
The one in Henesys was boring as hell.
VL + Ravana -> Grandpa -> small groups of the same mob -> done...

Wow, they summoned several ACTUAL BGAs.
And the actual card dropping manon/griffey/mushmom/zmm
Pretty cool if it wasn't for the massive lag.
