Installing Maple Onto Another User
#1
I was wondering if there is a way to install maple onto another user account on a computer, so that both would be able to run at the same time, with 2 different accounts logged in.

And if this is the wrong forum, sorry.

Thanks.

I don't believe this is possible. Even if you have a VM that could do it, you'd either have to have godly overclocked hardware or have enough stuff that you'd mind as well have two computers.

Then there's GameGuard, I think that plays an issue as well. You can't have two copies of those running at the same time.

EDIT: There's a technical help forum for this sort of thing =P

ah poo, i thought it may be possible, because i found that having a dial up program up and connected on one account allowed me to use the internet on another, so i thought i might be bale to have 2 maples up or something.

I have tried this. It is very hard (if not impossible) to run two MapleStory.exe files at the same time. GameGuard keeps it from starting up twice, even if it's on another user account.

Virtualization is also really tricky. Maple requires 3D acceleration, which is only now being tackled by the companies. I think VMWare is able to do it, and I know Parallels (mispelled it, I'm sure) can do it on the Mac at least.

Even after that, there's performance issues. However, if you just want to run one as a FM mule, it shouldn't be hard if your computer is around a few years old. MapleStory can run on very limited resources, but don't expect it to be pretty (or fast). I had a old machine (750 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM) as a FM mule and it did the job.

Yeah, VMware can run Maple. It doesn't work well on my Pentium 4 2.8GHz though :/ (about 20-25 fps at best if I'm running 2 maples at once, often 10 or lower).

By VMWare, do you mean Workstation or Player? I would LOVE to have some way to play Maple while in Linux*. It would save me precious time that would be wasted rebooting.

* = If anyone wants to know, it doesn't run in Wine. GameGuard chokes and even with that out of the equation, it still fails.

I've ran 4 maples on same comp with VMware without lag ;O

It's entirely possible, it just depends on you computer specs.

Can you guys explain if this is in anyway against ToS? I don't mind having only 1 computer on for a FM mule and training. If it's perfectly fine, instructions would be nice Big Grin

I don't see why it wouldn't be against the ToS. There's no way to enforce it, as there's no way of knowing whether it's two accounts from the same person, or two people living in the same household.

I've ran three PCs with mules before (I'm hardcore), and never had any problems.

I wasn't saying that logging on multiple accounts in general is against the ToS, but I was wondering if the fact that it's a third party program would be against the ToS. I remember when Window Mode Programs were considered a third party program and a "tool of hacking." Obviously running more than 1 computer for maple is perfectly legal, but is running VMWare against the ToS?

I really would love to maximize one computer than using 2.

WARNING UBERNERD MOMENT

This is a great question. And you've damn near stumped me on this one. After thinking about it for a few, I don't see how it would be counted as a third-party program any more than Winamp or MSN would. You have your physical PC running Windows, Maple, and what not, and you have your virtual PC running Windows, Maple, etc. Consider it as running two operating systems on the same PC. Two entirely different kernel and user spaces, and thus two PCs to the outside world.

GameGuard on a virtual PC can't see more than GameGuard on a physical PC would, and when you're behind a router, it's completely transparent to the outside world.

Non UberNerdy Version

If you're behind a router, it won't look any different to the outside world. Use two PCs, use a PC and VMWare. Can anyone on the internet tell the difference? Probably not.

(Anyone with any networking knowledge, please chime in and clearify this.)

I'm just curious to know if VMWare Workstation is required for this. If this can be done in VMWare Player, then I am so going to give this a try tomorrow from inside Linux.

I'm doing it with Workstation, I never tried the Player. I know I had to patch in some sort of 3d renderer to get it to work, I'm not sure if it is available for the Player as well. I also created the XP image myself which afaik the player cannot do.

the ToS does not say anything against third party software. it says stuff about third party software that modify the game.
next time, please read the end of the line.

Programs such as QEMU can make VMWare disk images. I believe there's even a website that can make a prepared disk image and a configuration file to go with it.
