I made an anime compatibility calculator
#1

I made an anime compatibility calculator this weekend. It uses myanimelist.net to get the anime two people have seen and calculates compatibility in both directions. The intention is that rather than have some vague compatibility number that's the same for both people, there should be two numbers: person 1 to person 2 and person 2 to person 1. The number is supposed to reflect the likelihood of one person liking a show recommended by the other person.

Still in progress, but the core of it is done. The top X% (by default, 25%) of anime a person has completed and rated are considered to be "liked", the bottom Y% (by default, 25%) are considered to be "disliked", and the middle is considered "ok". I am considering adding support for you to specify likes and dislikes by MAL rating rather than percentile.

"Recommended value" and "Disliked value" are intended to allow you to e.g give recommendations for anime that you dislike less weight than a recommendation for anime that you do like. It currently does not work as expected.

Also, feel free to add me on MAL.

So if I'm reading the score right, it's a ~50-52% chance for both of you guys to like an anime that the other has recommended? A very interesting calculator if I do say so myself. Too bad I don't MAL so I could make use of this, but I'm sure I may be able to find friends who use MAL.

Not quite. Recommendations from the other person that you dislike count against the rating. 50% is the neutral score if likes = dislikes. Chance of liking a recommendation can be seen in the "number of likes" and "number of recommendations in common" values.
