MP formulas

In LazyBui's stickied Guide to HP and MP, I noticed something peculiar with the Minimum MP formula for Pages (and presumably WKs and Paladins). My hypothesis was that the absolute minimum MP you could have was based on adding up the minimum MP gained per level, including the job advanced MP gained. And being a disciple of reason, I tried to find out why the constant in the equation listed in the guide listed 159.

So according to my own number crunching, I attempted to find out the slope-intercept formula for minimum MP...
--Starting MP: 50 (I don't know if this is still true or not)
--Minimum MP gained from leveling as a beginner: 9*10 = 90
--Minimum MP gained from leveling as a warrior: 190*4 = 760
--Minimum MP gained from Page job advance: 100
--Minimum MP at level 200: 1000 MP

Therefore, the minimum MP for Pages, by my hypothesis, should be Level*4 + 200

I've taken many considerations (mostly guesses) into how Nexon keeps track of HP and MP for characters, based on what I know about HP-washing. Also, this is without any evidence from SSes or testimony.

Problem is, I can't see how the constant 159 works in this equation, unless it's an arbitrary value assigned by Nexon. And yes, I already tried posting on LazyBui's thread and I even PMed him for an answer. Anyone care to enlighten me? =(

Well I'll use the data from that thread and go step by step:

Start: 5 MP

 Beginner

10 minimum per level + (INT/10) <- should be 0 I think because 4/10 rounds down (?)
9 levels = 9 * 10 = 90 + 5 = 95 minimum

Level by level:
1 - 5
2 - 15
3 - 25
4 - 35
...
8 - 75
9 - 85
10 - 95

So the formula would be Level * 10 - 5

 1st Job

4 minimum per level + (INT/10) <- should still be 0 (?)
20 levels = 20 * 4 = 80 + 95 = 175 minimum

Level by level:
10 - 95
11 - 99
12 - 103
13 - 107
...
28 - 167
29 - 171
30 - 175

So the formula is Level * 4 + 55

Still 4 minimum per level + (INT/10) <- still 0 (?) unless you have +INT equips
170 levels = 170 * 4 = 680 + 100 + 175 = 955 minimum at lv 200

Level by level:

So the formula is Level * 4 + 155

 Summary

Since the beginner MP increase is different, I'll ignore that part. I'll start at level 10, which has the minimum of 95 MP. From there on it's 4 minimum per level, so the formula will obviously be Level * 4 + a constant. Then I take a look at the level 10 MP, which is 95. This gives me Level * 4 + 55. Then when you get to 2nd job, you get MP bonus for the advancement. So that would put the formula at Level * 4 + 155. So the constant in that thread is wrong according to my calculation. I don't have any other knowledge on this topic, but based on the information from that topic, the constant is wrong.

That is more or less the math I used PKProStudio. It's not getting us anywhere, unless the 4/10 INT thing has something to do with it. I don't think it does though, since MP gains are by integers, not decimal points.

First of all, where did 159 come from? If he made it up when writing the guide, then there's a high chance he made a mistake while calculating. If it's directly from the game data, then it's another story.

I highly doubt he would have gotten it directly from the game data unless he's had a hand in setting up a PServer. Even then, that's not entirely reliable, and it seems quite apparent that he's been creating the formulas through user contribution.

Then the conclusion is he just got the formula wrong.
