To anyone who has PSN - CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS

A security breach in the Playstation Network by still unidentified hackers resulted in stolen personal information, Sony confirmed today.

The news comes more than nine days after the intrusion and six days after Sony shut down both the Playstation Network and Qriocity services in reaction to the breach. Sony says they've hired a "recognized security firm" to conduct a complete investigation into what happened and have taken steps to enhance security and strengthen network infrastructure.

"We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network," Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications for Sony Computer Entertainment of America, wrote on the official Playstation Blog today.

Among the possible information stolen:
Name
Address (city, state, zip)
Country
Email address
Birthdate
PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login and handle/PSN online ID.

There is no evidence that credit card data was taken, Seybold writes, but they company cannot rule out that possibility.

" If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained," he wrote.

Sony is encouraging users to be especially aware of potential phishing scams from people using email, phone calls and mail to try and extract more personal or sensitive information from you. Sony also is strongly recommending that you change you password once you're able to log back into the Playstation Network.

"To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports," Seybold wrote

"We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions."

I'm sure if any of you guys follow the news, this should be already known. But I'm reposting so the news is clear and obvious to anyone here that doesn't check.

And you know what's worse? We can't change our information since PSN is down.

Meh, I don't particularly care much about my PSN account. I don't have a card on my account either. That, and I don't even know what the hell I used for my password. I apparently didn't put my birthday in either, which I'm not too sure why, so I can't recover it. Ironically enough, the only reason I don't remember my account info now is because I changed it in the past, so at one point I did know the birthday I put in and I did change the password into something I don't even remember.

I don't have any valuable info linked to my account so eh. I'm still changing my email password just to feel safe.

Every moron out there who was cheering on Anonymous is at fault here. Whether or not the collective of anonymous claims responsibility for this or not, they're at fault. All of their actions led to this point.

Not that I would take responsibility off of Sony's shoulders for allowing the information to be available in any way, because they do need to be held accountable. But they're not the only ones at fault here. When morons cheer on jackasses it only creates incentive for those pineapples to keep pushing further until pomegranate like this happens.

Oh hell freaking no. It's a good thing I didn't have a credit card number tied in with my account or I'd be really upset. I can only hope that since I didn't sign on to PSN on those days that my account was least likely to have been affected.

If they get your PSN info, can they access your netflix?
