Branching out socially
#1
I really just want some input that's different than Blaine's cold cut opinions. Personally, i'm really trying to change. I've been an introvert for a lot of my life, and i'm trying to start anew. Finding new friends, and finding some girls to be.. closer friends with. But being an introvert has scarred my social abilities quite a bit; i'm not the most avid of people to converse with, but that's not really the problem. Merely finding people that are worth hanging out with is my issue. There's a profound amount of trash in my area; which hinders things quiet a bit. And I simply just don't know what to do to find others like me. What also I lack is in the relationship world. Despite being young.. I just can't do all that short term pomegranate. I want someone who I can trust and that can be there for me. And finding a girl who holds that same opinion in this day and age is so damn hard it isn't funny. On top of all that other stuff, just finding a girl i'd want to go out with.. it makes a giant roadblock. It's like, I don't want to go out with someone because I don't want it to end horribly.

A mixture of asking for help and venting.. I guess that's what this is.

What I've found is that you cannot just "go out and make friends". That's literally impossible to do. All friendships have a contextual relationship which is commonly with a place, location, or club. So you have high school friends, band geek friends, what have you. So going out and just trying to make friends often doesn't work. You have to engage yourself with a certain ideology - find something you like doing - and then find groups of people that do that thing. Then you will find yourself with friendships.

Don't worry about girls or dating or any of that. Just set yourself out to have a good time. If girls come they come. If they don't they don't. Or, better yet, invite a girl to your club thing and see how she likes it. Who knows, you might have the same interests.

Be careful about saying things like this. It destroys your confidence. You are a completely competent human being. Just get out there and do something. If you make a fool out of yourself, so be it. But it's better to try than have not tried at all.

Key to improving: Be confident in yourself. Without it, you'll not want to be around people and cannot be around people.

Now as to how you can go about improving your social stuffs (assuming you're in college?[or i suppose this would help in High school too])

1. Ask yourself: what do you enjoy doing? The best way to interact and talk with people, is about stuff that you have in common.

2. So now that you know that, Find yourself people who ALSO share this passion. This could mean doing a little research on clubs/hobby stores/ groups that enjoy doing that thing.

3. Be open to talking with people (if you did above, then it should be EZPZ). DO NOT be something you're not. If you are, you're only hurting yourself.

4. OPTIONAL: If you're feeling uber confident, join a fraternity. Social or networking type (hell even a service frat). Fraternities in college are one of the main places to socialize and talk to people. Some are even Co-Ed so you'll meet yourself some nice girls too ;D

This is in general. Since i, myself, have yet to be in any sort of more-than-friends relationship, i dare not say anything for relationship advice. With the above, you can make friends with ANYONE as long as you don't alienate people (such as giving off a creeper vibe and/or talking about stuff that you probably wouldn't talk about over a nice dinner [however, if that is your cup of tea, then find people who like that type of tea and you'll have a lot in common Big Grin])

EDIT: nuts. Ninja'd by super chinchilla man :c

I've always wondered how twins of any sort feel about this courage wolf.

YOU WERE BORN A TIE
YOU JUST COULDNT KEEP IT TOGETHER

YOU JUST BARLEY LOST
TO THAT DOUCHEBAG WHO CROWDED THE WOMB YOU LIVED IN

YOU WERE BORN A WINNER
STILL HAD TO SHARE THE WOMB

More towards the op: there is nothing at all wrong with being introverted. Introverts aren't failed extroverts. No one is completely one or the other either. There has got to be some balance. You don't need to be as extroverted as so-and-so or have as many friends as X. You need to find the balance for yourself where you are comfortable and happy.
