Dress code for a concert

So I'm going to LangLang's concert tonight at the Orpheum (friend had no one to go with so I decided to go with her), and I'm just wondering, is there any sort of formal dress code or anything that is considered "appropriate" or "Inappropriate" for such occasions? I havent gone to a concert at the Orpheum since I was...14? 15? so I dont exactly remember what I wore to it.

Also, what do you guys wear to concerts (I know most of you probably arent going to classical piano concerts), both classical and others?

Eh for classical pieces, I'd say at the minimum go for some dressier pants/slacks (no jeans, shorts, or cargos) and a dressier shirt as well of course, like a button up or maybe a polo? Depends on what your style is, but generally you want to look a bit nicer than casual clothes, without going for the full on suit and tie deal. I mean you could go that far, but it's hardly required, and usually you'd be told if it was.

For other concerts, it depends entirely on where you're going and who you're going with. If you're going to a rock concert, you'd probably be just fine with jeans and a t shirt or whatever casual style you go for. If you were going to a metal concert with a mosh pit, you might want to wear clothing you don't mind getting torn/ripped/etc. Though again, it really does depend a lot on who you're going with and what you're going to see.

I dont want to overdress cause Im chilling with friends after and they arent going to the concert, so no matter what I wear, I'll be overdressing when hanging out with friends, but nothing I can do about that.

Well when I attend classical guitar concerts I wear a polo and dress pants with Doc Martins (black leather dress boots).

Yeah, if you're going to something classical, wear dress pants, dress shirt, and dress shoes, etc. Wear whatever suits the genre, really. If I attended a Metal concert, I'd be wearing pants with chains all over, and black colored T-shirts, honestly. It really depends on the artists, genre, etc. But if I was attending a classical concert, I would NEVER dress like that. Thank god my closet is awesome and flexible, because I have so many styles of this and that for whatever that suits a situation.

Honestly the only way I could call that underdressing was if you were to had to get up on stage and everyone else was in full on tux mode. And even then I'd hesitate to say that's a problem, formal wear is usually saved for very specifc reasons, and most people will never attend a piano concert that requires extreme formal wear.

As for your friends, well you could always try to sneak a t shirt underneath if you're wearing a buttoned up one, so long as it doesn't show up, i.e. no black t shirts under a white dress shirt. Not much can be done about the dress pants though.
