I'll embrace the static.

Maybe in it's chaos, I'll be able to better escape into the universe of myself, listening to the echoes of the universe.

The monochrome world. Flashing lights and stalking the dark trails of shadows, taking their stride as mine.

The world's lost it's color, now only shades of grey are what my eyes, foggy in the misty noon light.

Red, white, and green were the first colors to leave. All purpose and recognition to their existance faded. A drifting memory, a sigh in the sea of this waste.

Yellow and Black, hand in hand, fixed themselves upon the lofty stars and took away their souls from this world.

Green, blue, brown, and orange were taken by the noise. It shook them, tore them. They were eaten by the void.

Purple, the last, was left alone. It fell to despair and faded from sight, escaped even from it's own life. No one should bear the stain of abandonment.

Echoes. The low hum of a beating heart that gave form to this world, and the grey barren land are all my senses understand here.

It is peaceful. Nice, quiet, a forlorn foe turned ally, unsure of where it should stand. It exists to find it's purpose.

Yes. It sighs.

"Fine, I'll take the knife." He was reluctant of the old man's warning, but he knew sooner or later his eyes would start to betray him.

He held it up to the heavens, grasping the handle firmly in his hands. He stared right up at the tip of the blade. Serrated, he knew it would hurt.

"I, son of Gabriel, and of Julius, whose blood carries the marks of Transgression, request salvation. May this knife purge me of my sins." He thrust the blade into his chest, but it collapsed. He withdrew it from him, then struck again. Once more the blade did not harm.

"Son," said the tired old man, "you do not need to redeem yourself like this."

"What do you mean?" asked the boy, confused. He dropped the blade from his hand, and as it fell unto the ground it shattered into many shards. It was as if it were made of glass and not steel.

"You took the shame of your actions and bore the burden of responsibility. You must'nt do harm to yourself when you've done such good."

"But, how do you know what things I've done, the atrocities I've born witness to? I've seen a mother abandon her son, a father destroy his daughters hopes and dreams, friends fighting amongst themselves, the towns burnt by the angers of revolt. What good do you speak of?"

"My son," he started, a calm tone to his voice, "you have stood up for your own self. That is the true test of a man, to stand up for himself and what is right." He removed his robe and exposed his scarred torso and burned flesh. "I was once a martyr, and chosen by my people to pay for a crime I did not commit. I live now because I never gave up living. Do not give in to defeat, my boy."

Three lines shape the world. Life, Fire, and Ice. Life, the wind that gives, shapes the creation of all things. It is calm, ever present, omnipresent, and unwavering in its dedication to the continuation of creation. Fire, the wind that moves, dictates all that is, was, and ever will be. It guides, provides, and survives. It is endearing, dangerous, and unyielding in it's focus to driving those that be. Ice, the wind that stops, it is the antithesis of Life. Ice is fragile, slow, but ever alert, and given a momentary weakness, shown the faintest glimpse of a crack in the wall, it snuffs out the Fire and causes all things to end. It is unstoppable, as with it and Fire the air of Water, of all manner of plants and animals thrive. Ice shall not relent, nor can it. Where it lies, all too present are it's signs.

These beings gave me a great insight, and for their wisdom have bound me here. Solid rock, unmoving and strong. Here is where I lay, here is where my kingdom reigns. Here is my home, my fortress, my jail, my exile, and all things given to me by Life, Fire, and Ice. I am too gracious and too plain a fool to receive these bounties, but I thank them for my gifts as any humble servant of The Three must. This is my peace.

"Hello, God? It's me again.

Look, I know you're probably busy helping out others, or working in mysterious ways, or even just sitting back on a cloud and not doing anything. That's fine, it is. I thought I'd just let you know I am still here and am looking for some help. You know, I wonder if my mom's up in Heaven with you, or if she's not. Can you please tell me somehow? Also, my legs keep getting weaker with every passing day. Doctors say that eventually I'll need to get confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I know I asked you for the support to get through this and I'm scared, but I know you'll get around to me eventually and help give me the courage to pull through it. Also, there's a girl a few rooms over, the doctors say that she's got cancer, but that it isn't dangerous now. God, can you please help her pull through too? She's a really funny girl, and the few times I've been allowed to play with her were really fun. She's really good at checkers, and I like playing checkers with her. God, can you find it in your heart to please help her? It's kind of lonely here. The nurses usually only come in here every few hours to change my pan, then give me my medicine, then leave. It gets lonely in here at night. God, I know I'm asking for a lot but can you help out the man in the bed across from me? All he does is sleep. Nurses come in and check up on him a lot whenever the machine he's tied to starts to beep loudly. I think they said he was in a car accident and is in a coma. God, can you help him stay alive? I'd like to have another friend to talk to so I don't get lonely. But I'm probably asking for too much now. So God, can you please just help out the girl instead? I'll be fine if I can't use my legs anymore, but I don't want to lose a friend.

With all my love,
Nigel."

"WHO THE HELL DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO STAND AT THE GATES, HUH, SOME PUSHOVER WEAKLING WITH THE INTELLIGENCE OF AN AVERAGE MAN? NO YOU NITWIT, I AM THE WISEST OF THE WATCHMEN. YOU THINK YOU CAN PASS THROUGH THESE MIGHTY DOORS INTO THE LAIR OF THE QUEEN WITHOUT HAVING TO FACE ME? YOU'RE PATHETIC. GO HOME YOU FOOL, YOU HAVE NO HOPE OF DEFEATING ME. PATHETIC, YOU TRIED TO SING A SONG FOR THE PRINCESS, AND NOW YOU'RE HERE TO BREAK THROUGH MY STATIONED WATCH? I AM MIGHTIER THAN YOU CAN EVEN FATHOM. THE MOMENT YOU STOLE YOUR FIRST INFANTILE SQUEAL OF BIRTH-CRIES, I WAS ALREADY AWARE THAT YOU'D COME HERE TO FACE ME TODAY. I'VE WATCHED YOU GROW, DEVELOP YOUR TALENTS, AND LAUGHED ALL THE WHILE. I AM THE GIANT THAT TOWERS OVER THE MOUNTAINS, A LION WHOSE DEN IS FILLED WITH FIRE AND GORE, THE AIR YOU BREATH IS A GIFT FROM MY FLATULENCE. GO BACK YOU IGNORANT SOD, OR YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN THE GRACE OF A QUICK AND PAINLESS DEATH!"

The silently crying girl continued to stare out the frozen third story window, directing her eyes to the street below.

Was she able to move, I wonder? Or is it that she refused to? She looked healthy enough from what I could see. I placed her at around my age, so the thought that she was sick enough to be out of school crossed my mind. Why else would she be out today?

Then again, I wasn't at school today either. Though that was for a different reason.

The world was about to change.

It was, perhaps, the voice in my head that damned me to this act.

"The world just keeps on moving", it said. "This broken world just keeps! On! Moving! Don't you think we could stop it if we tried? So why don't we, you and me?"

I had ignored it at first. But it kept coming back, again and again. The taste of power it brought was so delicious, bringing such rich, pure, undiluted euphoria to my mind, that I could do nothing but listen as it came to me last night. It gave me a simple task. A simple task that anyone could do. But...

The world was about to be changed.
