Evolving dragons

On my Ranger I had the fortune of getting the color of the evolved dragon that I wanted on the first try. Regarding future attempts, if the color of one dragon is not what you want, can you try another rock on that same dragon? Or do you need a new baby dragon? Also, if I have a dragon of one color already, can another baby dragon evolve into a color I already have? Thanks for the help.

Yes, you just need another Rock. No need to redo the quest.
