Tokyo Area to Ban "Adult" Manga and Anime

Thoughts?

Personally, Im not 100% sure how to take this. I dont think it will remove the subject matter completely, but I can definitely see it affecting the types of shows that are released. Certain shows like Yosuga no Sora would probably never make it to air with this in effect. It does seem, however, to just move certain things to the adult section of stores, which I can almost see something like To Love Ru being moved, as well as Panty and Stocking, but those probably wont be outright banned.

Too bad it's also limited to fictional depictions. artists and game designers over there are outraged by it.

The Japanese Jack Thompson?

Anyway I hope they fight this. I mean, I don't care for some of the stuff they're banning (loli and shota), but if what they're saying is true (I have some reservations as the writer seems biased by the way that he writes) so much stuff can fall under the categories for "bannable" (which apparently seems to include any LGBTQ material as I see it, as anything depicting any form of action) that the government could probably use it to get rid of anything that criticizes them and they don't agree with. The less censorship the better.

It's only in Tokyo. Though it may cause some titles from being done the way the artist intends for it to be done, I don't think it'll have too much of an effect on the industry. There have been too many ero-focused titles recently anyway, I think it's the perfect time to take a bit of a break from 7 ero series per season.

I'd rather there be less censorship as well, but at the same time I'm not making too big of a deal about it. At least not now anyway.

I can kind of understand it, cuz everyone thinks it is weird and they're blaming the oktakus for why babies aren't being made. I guess they never thought females could be a problem when they're whoring themselves out in elementary school for stuff and have a 40% infidelity rate. Hurrrrr. Don't forget that they expect males to make more then the average american does.

Double standard; if there's any issues regarding sex, it's always the male's fault. "He came too fast, he can't last long enough, he doesnt have a pleasing size, he is unimaginative in bed." Women are never the problem, it's always the man that has to take some sort of medication, get some sorta apparatus, or talk to a doctor.

Don't forget that if anyone ever talked about "men's rights" they're sexist, but "women's rights" are completely okay.

If they had a "white entertainment channel" they'd be racist, but a "black entertainment channel" is okay

Fking human population you suck

Yes, humans suck with double standards, but that's off topic.

I can agree with spidey's logic. Too much saturation is a bad thing, so a break'd be nice. and if it's limited to tokyo, then they will find a way around it.

Where the hell are they gonna host Comiket 80? I think the industry relies too heavily on something like this to have it immediately taken away. I'm sure there's a lot of companies that can't afford to move or outsource or whatever to produce material, and will go into the red because of this, mainstream or not.

I think if it gets really bad, it'll set a precedent and the events will no longer be held in Tokyo. Companies wouldn't want to limit or have their anime/manga banned. And in their mind, even removing some of the sexual material will possibly cause less sales. Either way, it was a bad move for Tokyo. They're going to lose a ton of money.

Japan already censors it's porn, so I'm not surprised.

That's for an entirely different reason though.

Fun fact: This is only referring to title specifically aimed towards youth and will probably not affect already adult-only stuff.

I'm fairly sure the already vague context of this law constitutes any (sexual) content which can "interfere with the healthy development of youth" regardless of whether youth have legal access to it or not.

Also, why does everyone here link to Sankaku? Sankaku is the Fox News of nerdy Japanese news sites.

Dan Kanemitsu's Paper Trail
AkibaBlog
Canned Dogs
Tsurupeta.info (Okay, not so much this one anymore)
HobbySearch blog

Speaking of alternate news sites, this is more informative than Sankaku's article.
