I don't get why China just HAS to be top in everything or to just do something extraordinary. Can't they just be more pragmatic or something?

Like this dumb television tower thingy (that sends out the broadcasts) somewhere in Guangzhou. They just HAD to make it look so awesome (definitely hell for the people fixing it up when carrying out maintenance), then just recently they found it was too high for some reason or another so now they're racking their brains over how to make it shorter.
