I agree with the idea of him being a simple, but curious researcher who discovered great power and life changing abilities, but was exiled by a group of zealots at the time who thought the power of life should not be manipulated as he did. The power had some sort of basis on the psychological state of the user and somehow corrupted him while he was in exile.

At the end of things, it could be that alchemy in game itself is based on demon-ology (doubt that's a word), but they could make it so that he was corrupted wholly by them and that the true battle lies in their realm. Just a way to extend the game they could use, but it doesn't really feel all that maple-like. Granted, Magaita didn't feel all too maple-like either, but it was awesome.

If there wasn't a limitation on world tour areas as far as stories go, this could be tied into Masteria as well by making it some sort of place in Versal in the extreme past. Might also help explain why Versal is nearly perpetually covered in darkness. More than anything though, I want to see an expansion to the areas in Elin Forest.

Oh yes, did I mention that I'm reminded of that Garland quote every time I face the Captain in the Dual Raid? During the fight he says something like "In the name of Marine, I will defeat you!"...which reminds me of what Garland said. ._.
