Evolution and stat growth
#1
I can't remember how this works -

was it "stats before evolution remain intact" or "once you evolve, it's as if you'd been evolved the entire time, and stats change to reflect this"

For example, Scyther gains far more speed per level than the evolution, Scizor. If Scyther is raised to lv 100 and has imaginary speed of 350, but Scizor raised to 100 would have speed of 300, would the speed suddenly drop to 300 or would it remain at 350?

It would drop. When you evolve Scyther into Scizor, its speed gets cut in order to balance attack. When you evolve, the stat changes take place then and there, rather than a gradual adjustment into the stat change.

Stats are based on four things:

-Base stats of the Pokemon species, which are fixed values for each species
-Individual values (IVs) of the Pokemon, which are values from 0-31 for each of the six stats and cannot be modified
-Effort values (EVs) of the Pokemon, which are values from 0-31 for each of the six stats and can be modified
-level

The formula for calculating stats basically looks like (base stats + IVs + EVs) * (level/100). It's actually a little more complicated, with some multipliers, but that's the gist of it. When you evolve a Pokemon, the only thing that you change is the species, and thus the base stats. So it doesn't matter when you evolve it - the end stats will be the same. For your example question, Scizor would still lose speed after evolving at level 100.

I use to be so paranoid about evolving late. Got the idea that they were only a factor of species and not a gradual change from some site or something. Feels good to see confirmation.

Effort Values are maximum of 255 per stat, usual capped at 252, with 510 total EVs gained overall.

Er right. I just copy pasted my line about IVs without bothering to check that.
