Now, my experience online can be split into, essentially, 4 epochs: The Sonic 2 Beta days, the Space.com era, the FESS stage, and the present (or Maple period). In 2000 I was only 11 years old, and having only a few weeks of exposure to the internet, you can imagine how my first few days on the Sonic 2 beta forums went. I signed up and did so many stereotypically “noobish” things that you'd think I was the original prototype. (zomg yes, there was a time when Isaac was a noob) For example, I replied to every single thread in their general discussion section (I think it was called Communication Center), then once I had the last reply for the whole first page, I made a new thread with copy/pasted text showing that I had “taken over!” by posting so much. Needless to say, the regulars were not amused and I was heavily chastised, though fortunately not banned. The forum was an ezBoard, a common type in those days. My first account here was a local one, Knux*5 numbers here*. Over time, I learned not to spam, what was appropriate and what wasn't, met my first trolls and dealt with flames (though, I don't think either of those words were in common usage at the time.) I was told of the past of the forum: “The Attack of the Sonic Haters”, Simon Wai's departure, leaving the forums in the care of an administrator named Pelord (the only thing I can really remember about him is that he liked Linkin Park) and the appointment of a few other moderators. Apparently they had also had some problems with people using the name “Peiord” to impersonate him, and as a joke I made an account like that for the sake of personal laughs. I didn't realize he could see my IP and knew instantly who it was. But, he played along. Thinking back on it, I wonder how they put up with me. The man must have had the patience of a saint.

I made this thread because I am ashamed that I'm am lurking too fast. Someone please stab my keyboard.

Lurking means that you browse quite often, but don't post.

If anything, you need to lurk more.

For every post you see, there is at least 20 minutes of lurking, sometimes up to 40 minutes.

You're doing it wrong.
