Helm DEX 60%s, or Helm DEX 100%s my helm?

Already posted in two other threads, but I feel it's best to at least make a poll. I already got one 60% opinion, and a 100% opinion. Halp.



Which way to go? All I know is both routes are going to be pretty expensive, but 100% will be the cheaper one, as well as more stable.

Current dilemma is:
6 100%s will be equal to me passing 3 60%s. That seems nice and all, but 60%s in the past seem to hate me, and the ONLY time it worked adequately in my favor is on the one item that really counted (my SCG, with 4/5 60%s).

However, stuff like my Bosshunter Gi was only 17 DEX/1 slot. Attempting to self scroll my own INT yellow cape gave me fail results. I maybe COULD have scrolled a 21 DEX Brown Pollard but in my rage at how bad that only 2/6 60%s passed after passing 1 10% and 2 30%s I blew it up on the final slot with a 30%. Bye bye 100m.

I still remember being mocked by my warriors Blue Dragon Babuta when 5 10% Helm DEF scrolls worked with 1 slot left, yet I blew up a 5m Blue Screamer on the 1st slot with a 30%. I also remembered trying to scroll a clean Green Scarab only to have 3/7 60%s work. I dunno, scrolls seem to swing to both extremes for me. I either scroll something very nice, or I blow it up/fail miserably.

As for getting the Helm 60% or Helm 100%s, I can either buy it, or hunt for it (using 2x drop).

If I 100%, it'll be 31 DEX. If I 60%, I can get up to 37 DEX, or be stuck with a piss poor 25 DEX that could have been 31. And no, I do not plan to White Scroll 60%s. I not THAT rich.

What should I do then?

see'ing as you have 6 slots left, which is still a lot in my opinion, if ur gonna choose between those 2 i'd go for 60%'s. why? well with 60% scrolls you always end up with better stuff on the long run then with 100%'s. the chance that you scroll under a 31dex helmet are lower then the chances on for instance a 33dex helmet.. if you want exact numbers i'd have to calc them for you..


eassiest example possible:
lets say we have a 100slots helmet
using only 60%'s, 60 of them will work resulting in a 120 dex helmet
using only 100%'s 100 of them will work resulting in a 100 dex helmet

this would still work with 6slots only, but there is a chance you end up with under 31 dex.. the odds are lower then ending up with a better helmet but still.. with scrolling you never control the outcome, you only control what scroll you are gonna use and theoreticaly a 60% would be smarter

Sure. Especially learning from my past scrolling, seeing the actual probability would help a lot in seeing if it's worth it.

I'm assuming 70s are completely off the radar for you. Whenever I have bad luck with 60s and good luck with 30s, 70s seem to like me too.

Don't feel like doing anymore runs for helms, because that means donating Apples to take Zak down in a reasonable 40-50 minute time with an average of 2-3 ranged attackers. I'd like to just scroll a good helm, and don't have to care anymore about my helm's DEX and get back to training. Zak is no good source of EXP for me, only for the ranged attackers.

I voted wait before seeing that you had already scrolled it some.
However, I'll stick with it. Use karma on it, and then get another helm. If that stats are better, scroll that one instead.

However, if you think you're going to throw this helm away later, and get a new one eventually, I'd say 60% it. If 3 fail, then quickly do 100%, unless there's only 1 slot left. Then use another 60% and hope for the best.

A friend told me of a formula to figuring out the probability of 6 slots
((n!)/(n-x)!x!) * (p^x) * (q^(n-x)).

This is what he explained:
n = number of trials
x = number of successes
! = factorial
p = probability of success
q = probability of failure

Here's what I got:

All 6 failing: 0.4096%
5 failing: 3.6864%
4 failing: 13.824%
3 failing: 27.648%
2 failing: 31.104%
1 failing: 18.6624%
0 failing: 4.6656%

So the odds of getting less than 31 DEX: 17.92%
Odds of getting a 31 DEX: 27.648%
Odds of 33 DEX or better: 54.4432%
Odds of getting a 31 DEX or better: 82.08%

Hmmmmmmmm, when laid out this way, 60%ing seems very favorable. But can a statistics buff quickly make sure I didn't borked up one of the numbers?

^I didn't check all 6 possibilities, but I checked a few, and they add up to 100%, so you're fine. The formula is correct.

Yes, 60% is always a better outcome in a similar way to that, especially if you have a good amount of slots, like the 6 that you have.

Question is whether you feel confident enough and have enough mesos to deal with the (fairly small, but 1 in 5 chance) risks. It's nothing like exploding it, though. Honestly, if I were you, I'd feel quite happy just to have the helm as it is (didn't you say it only took 2 runs worth of helms?), and consider the last 6 slots a bonus. =)
