Money problems

So here's my dilemma. I've been on summer break for a week and a half now, and I've been unable to find a job or some other source of income thus far. I go to an expensive out-of-state university and my parents aren't too happy shelling out the bill every semester, especially since my first year didn't go too amazingly and I haven't been able to find any scholarships or even bother looking. In order to convince them that it's worth it for them to keep paying my tuition, I have to show that I can offset their costs and at least pay for housing, books, etc.

One side source of income I've considered while looking for a job is starting up a website or blog or something and hopefully being able to have enough interesting content to generate ad revenue. I'm aiming to at least be able to make enough to pay for hosting or whatever, and go from there. I'm not sure how to go about doing this, though. It would probably be easy to do something MS-related, and it would be awesome because my mother's always told me that I'll never benefit from playing this game.

I've never cared about money too much. I don't care about buying nice things and have no problem saving. In MS I rarely charge NX and usually just sell things off in MTS to pay for my monthly needs. I know next to nothing about money, so any ideas/thoughts would be appreciated. If there's something MS-related that you would really like to see, tell me, and I'll do my best to make it. I'm a fast learner and pretty good at stringing things together. Before I made the DPS comparison thread I had almost no knowledge of how to do anything in Excel

Yeah, I've actually been driving around to all the fast food/grocery/local restaurant places in the past week, filling out 4-5 applications a day. Can't find anyone that is willing to hire for summer only. Fucking economy sucks.

Your college can't help you find somewhere to work? For an expensive out of state college they should atleast help you find something. The college I go to always can find something to atleast pay for monthly college bills.

you'll have a very tough time generating ad revenue on a website without at least having a niche (and basically everything seems to already be covered for maple). generally you should come up with something like this without having your mind set on profits anyway.. it'll be pretty obvious if all you're looking for is money.

your best bet to find a job is through contacts right now, to be honest. check with your friends to see if any of their workplaces have any openings.. ask family, friends of the family, etc. do odd jobs for people. and all the while, keep putting in job applications. check the classifieds & craigslist. just keep looking. there's not always something available all the time, but if you keep plugging away at it you'll eventually find something.

also a week and a half looking for a job is nothing. after a year of living in california (for the low education cost) doing nothing but odd jobs and not being able to find a real one, I had to move back to virginia. and now I'm working full time again. so.. don't get discouraged after one week lol. you've barely started.

oh and I don't mean to sound like a total bastard, but I'll be blunt. if you "haven't been able to find any scholarships or even bother looking.", why do you think it's worth it for your parents to pay your tuition? if you made no effort to be self-sufficient, why should they pay all of your expenses? you're in college, it's time to stop living off your parents lol.

Yeah I know, I've really fucked up so far. The problem is, I need something to do now, and my college is a good 6-7 hours drive from my parents' house, so it's not like I could keep a job for more than the 3 months of summer break.

I had trouble with finding a summer job. I know a lot of people lie and say they are going to stay there and then leave at the end of the summer, but I just didn't want to do that

Excel is easy as hell to learn anyways. I knew it when I was in 3-5th grade...
