Next JMS Anime tie up
#21
This actually isn't a next tie-up event. It's an on-going one. So, there's no need to worry, Polantaris.

Basically, this is an even to promote the reveal of the Steins;Gate movie. If you can read Japanese, you can see that the site calls for the "second part of the event" that starts on April 24th (第2弾のプレセントキャンペーンは4月24日から! = "The second present campaign starts on the 24th of April!"). The first part was an event where you could win movie tickets to the premier (of course, this was only possible if you live in Japan, so I didn't spread word about it).

I wonder if Nexon JP tried to do a tie-up for Dragon Ball Z : Battle of Gods, considering how big Dragon Ball is. Actually, this makes me curious about the whole tie-up process together. Who goes to whom? Does Nexon go to others, or do the others go to Nexon for advertisement purposes?

I find this funny. For a long time after watching Stein;gate I tried to accomplish an Okabe NX look on my char while I'd make m android Kurisu. Saddly I didn't have enough NX and the Okbe haircut was premium I believe.

Yes, some of their clothes don't match but that's the best I could make out the clothes in CS.

MrRainicorn would probably wet himself.

Thorr Wrote:It doesn't happen in GMS because nobody gives a rat's ass about it. This kind of thing is likely to only appeal to 5-10% of the user base. If they do things like this in GMS, it would have to be tie-ins with US based culture. If Maple did a Star Wars promotion, they'd get a large return on the licensing investment. It's not likely they would even recoup their license cost if they did Steins Gate in GMS.

They released a Vocaloid centric patch for Mabinogi which drew in a lot of players, so Nexon NA does think about these kind of things.

I disagree with this entirely.

I'd say less than 2% of mabi players even knew what the hell a hatsune miku was, most just assume she's an anime character of some sort they've never heard of, and of those who did know 80% didn't care and thought it was stupid and are only participating for rewards (free gold and xp for idling? Sure sign me up!), not out of interest in vocaloids. It certainly didn't bring in new players or bring players back to the game. The localization team didn't even bother keeping the Vocaloid name because it was virtually unrecognizable here.

How you think they'd do with FMA references, it's pretty big, I mean even you watched it Rolleyes

Well, i don't even know what vocaloid really is. Just only what half the threads on the nexon forums were about precluding up to the patch...

I assumed it was popular enough. The free VIP event doesn't hurt either, whatever they did, it sure is drawing more players than their usual patches. Although i bet it's trying to hook more people for the Gun patch that's coming up.

it IS pretty popular, but i can't say how much it is overseas, it's certainly known though...

in japan, she's the craze.

Those would do better than this, but frankly they'd probably make more off Naruto.
For that matter, Sailor Moon would probably kill based on the sheer number of people who rebirthed as Hatsune Miku avatars just for luls. Entire towns of her. Scary.

I think the maplestory crossover is next though, and that's kind of cute in a quirky way. Self referential but funny.

the gun patch will do it's own hooking, all of G18 and the rebalancing to follow will.

Yeah but it's one of those things that's distinctively Japan. Siri would sooner develop a following here, at least "she" does something so it sort of makes sense to humanize "her".

The very idea of a fanatical following for the avatar(s) of a voice synthesizer app is just bizarre. It'd be like someone developing an autotune avatar and people fawning over it. Literally. Creepy. Bizarre.

I completely agree. Just I don't know what brings people to Vocaloid though.
