why is there so much pressure in the world? (obvious reasons why) grades. punishments. being judged. whatever.. everything else.
imagine if we lived in a world without any unnecessary pressure at all. what if grades in school did not exist, and people learned for the sake of learning (with the only consequence zero knowledge gain). wouldn't that get you so much further knowing that nothing extremely bad will happen if you mess up?
when you play sports, don't you usually do better if your with friends playing for fun than playing seriously..
the simple ability of knowing mistakes won't kill you is soo comforting, it can propel you to achieve beyond greatness.
and i have trouble understanding how peopole do better under pressure. don't you push yourself too hard when you know that stuff will happen? you achieve the same thing, but in a less natural way
pressure will always exist.. unfortunately. because its necessary. but there is a point where people learn to accept things and it Should just go away, but it doesnt.
maybe im just thinking to hopefully..

If there were no pressure, no punishments, than human greed would grow out of control as no one would fear the consequences of theft, at least that is how I see it.

whats the point of getting more wealth if being poor wasn't really suffering when pressure didn't exist.

Without pressure from people who affect your life, you would probably be less likely to get things done. That would result in lower grades, not doing a good job and being fired, etc.
Heck, we might not even have some modern inventions today if we didn't have pressure. Without pressure, there wouldn't be stress. Boom, there goes that entire industry (or whatever they have for it).

the bad things in life make the good things in life seem that much better.
That's why spoiled people are so fucking annoying.

Read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. He describes a society that you are yearning for--one without pressure, one without all of the silly problems that most people face today.

I would probably commit suicide, the only reason I do anything is because of pressure to do it. Other than that, no point living. Why waste resources selfishly? Death is more responsible.
If I'm not under pressure I don't push myself at all. So I get nothing done, and noone cares. Doesn't sound a whole lot better to me.

Pressure is the force that creates societies.
Not humanity.
But without that pressure there would be anarchy.
And not the Good anarchy-
The willy-nilly crazy anarchy.
and to a further extent: apathy for life due to NO pressure.
Not even self-generated ones

Pressure is what motivates us to continue. It helps set goals and expectations for ourselves. I wouldn't want it to 'not exist'.

Yes.
IT'S THE TERROR OF KNOWING
WHAT THIS WORLD IS ABOUT
WATCHING SOME GOOD FRIENDS SCREAMING 'LET ME OUT'

Pressure can motivate people to excel, or it can make people afraid to try. It really depends on the person and their personality. In my experience and opinion, people who are confident in their abilities and themselves work well under pressure.
I work well under pressure. If there isnt a challenge, if there isnt a clock counting down, if there arent people counting on me, then I wont be interested. I'll do the bare minimum and be done with it.

BTW
I did write this when I was was under influence so some stuff such as spelling/grammar wrong.
I am also a star trek fan, take that into consideration while reading the article IF YOU KNOW WHAT STAR TREK IS ABOUT (in detail)... if not read it knowing that it is BIASED against aliens...
*****WALL OF TEXT WARNING*****

You know, pressure to survive is what got us to where we are today (evolution). Unfortunately humans came with a big imperfection (the ability to make mistakes). I do well under pressure (the fact that things will be bad if I don't do something) but when I make a mistake, a calculation error, a timing error, THINGS REALLY SUCK. When somebody else makes a mistake they also MAKE THINGS REALLY SUCK. After reading Stereo's post I realized that the extinction of the human race is not really a bad idea since we are putting most of our resources into things that either HURT THE PLANET or HURT THE SOCIETY AND KILL OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. That is a huge waste of resources so I say let's all kill ourselves and let a smarter civilization (ALIENS) use the earth's resources to (REPRODUCE AND MAKE THE POPULATION GROW)
*One can argue that the human race should be allowed to expand and grow but unfortunately a bunch of people that most (or some or none if you live in non FREE-WORLD COUNTRIES or if you are not a CITIZEN of a FREE-WORLD COUNTRY) of YOU pick to represent YOU (In small areas known as Capitals of Cities, Countries, UN) think other wise and think that humans are overpopulated and they believe that they should control the population by limiting the reproduction rate (HOT SEX) instead of expanding (MOVING TO OTHER RESOURCE-RICH PLANETS). We may not have enough knowledge to do so but apparently due to lack of education (DUE TO RICH PEOPLE OR COUNTRIES OR JUST SIMPLY DICTATORS NOT WANTING US TO LEARN) not enough of us are doing research to do that.
Which brings me back to my point of the fact that pressure got us VERY FAR but unfortunately NOT FAR ENOUGH. In fact it got us to a point where more of us ARE KILLING OUR FRIENDS AND OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. It also got us to a point where living our way of life is DESTROYING THE EARTHS NATURAL RESOURCES AT A HIGHER RATE THAN CREATING NATURAL RESOURCES.
Pressure is no good if it is doing more harm than good. It is not good if the more powerful people are using their resources to KILL MEMBERS OF OUR SOCIETY OR USING THEM (resources) FOR THEIR PLEASURE/ENJOYMENT. (instead of giving back to the poor so that the poor can be able to develop and use knowledge. And all these poor people end up killing other members of society because they are fighting for the few resources that are in their control and when one member of the human species think that our population growth slows. (Loss of 1 human life) ).
So you see pressure is good. However when combined with the imperfections humans have (GREED AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE MISTAKES (ERRORS IN CALCULATION)) pressure can really make some pineappling ugly pumpernickel.
Which brings me back to stereos post, humans should either make a choice- GET RID OUR ABILITY TO MAKE MISTAKES, GET RID OF GREED, GET RID OF KILLING MEMBERS OF OUR OWN SPECIES or simply die out and let another species use the earths resources so they can expand. You know, I would kill myself right now because I just don't see that happening within my expected lifetime but I don't know if there is an afterlife or if there is an afterlife I don't know if its better than my current life or worse or more of the same. `
So yea pressure got us far BUT NOT FAR ENOUGH. So pressure SHOULD EXIST. The ability to make mistakes and some human flaws should not.

There should be some pressure, but not as much as there is in today's society. Grades are important, but honestly, if you took a 40 year old, would he/she pass a 9th grade Algebra I exam?

yea but doesn't it bother you to realize that everybody in the world does something for reasons other than why they should be doing it?
people do good in school not cuz they like to learn, cuz they want money when they grow up. people do their jobs in life cuz they want money..
is there anything that people do in life thats Not for other benefits? (and if possible, easily proven through sacrifice of a part of their own life)

On topic, say the one thing you really want to do in life is, iunno, hang gliding (random thing that came to mind). You're fed up with the pressures of society because they want you to study well, go to college, and get some high paying job. You wish you didn't have to study so you could hang glide all day, right?
However, if no one at all was pressured to do well, no one would feel the urge to rise to the top, no one would build factories for manufacturing raw materials, no one would work in one if it existed or organize the workers if they existed, no one would bother inventing newer, safer models of hang gliders because they wouldn't get built, no one would bother educating people on how to hang glide safely because hang gliders don't exist, and no one would operate the stores that would sell them if they did exist.
No one gets satisfied, and everyone just slacks off and dies off.

The reason there is pressure in this world, is due to the fact that most humans are greedy (look at maplestory and you'll see it all around you). The need for greed is based on the need for survival.
Without pressure (rules) the greedy human race will end in chaos and won't function. So untill the human race surpasses it's need for greed there will always be rules needed to control it.
Rules create the pressure, rules won't go away, the pressure will be with the human race for a VERY long time.
Maybe the greed will end when the human race will have:
- Matter replicators (a la Startrek) => Everyone will always get food / house (for free)
- Endless energy (Nuclear Fusion) => Everyone will always have energy (for free)
- Robots that can take over ALL human (job) functions to replace the -basic need- for humans to do the work.
However, don't excpect this to happen untill the year 2500~3000... We won't live to see it...
And even then there will always be some humans who feel the need for power and the need to control other humans...
Yeah, the human race is quite a failure...

ZOMG STAR TREK FAN!
I disagree with you however on Nuclear Fusion being endless energy since the sun uses nuclear fusion and yet it will run out of energy...
...!
ZOMG THE SUN WILL RUN OUT OF POWER! WE NEED TO EXPAND TO OTHER PLANETS AND SOLAR SYSTEM.
Also killing members of the human species shows that we are not completly a society that can advance that far....

Society is not a natural occurence. Well, in some respects it is and it isn't.
People crave to be near other people. We depend on each other for survival, much like pack animals do, but we lack the instict of having a "natural order." So that is where our intelligence comes in. We create our own order. Since this is miind over instinct, everyone's idea of order may differ a little, but I think the end goal is the same for everyone. Everyone wants to be happy and carefree.
To a certain extent, I think that is possible (in a controlled sort of way), but every organism on this planet faces some kind of pressure at some point, and I think it is the hard times that make you appreciate the good times that much more. I mean really, doesn't a day off school/work make you happy, especially when you are not expecting it? Some people thrive on the thrill of deadlines and strees, others just bear it as best they can, but ALL people can appreciate when they get a break from it.

Think about it in maple, not even the greedy part. If we weren't being pressured by other people or even ourselves (as in my case) to level, we never would. If those thoughts weren't there pushing us, GMS would be full of level 1x noobs with no motivation to level.
Pressure is the backbone of human society as it is. People putting pressure purposefully on other people are the reasons we don't have hundreds of dictators trying to take over the world. If the pressure wasn't there from the U.N. and stuff like that, every other day there would be another Hitler or someone else trying to eliminate specific people and control those who they do let live.
Pressure from our friends and family keep us from doing stupid sh`it every day.
But, then, it can also drive people to do dumber things than ever. So...depends on which side you look at it from.
