Transfering hired merchants to another character?

I apologise if this question was asked before but I could not find it in search.

Has anyone ever tried transfering their Hired Merchants from one character to another on the same account while the merchant is open? Does the shop close down if you transfer it? Just want to know if this is possible before I buy one.

I'd imagine it would close, as the shop is connected to a character's inventory and name. Just speculation though.

I have tried.

It doesn't close when you transfer hired merchants to a diff. character on the acct. but you can't open another shop because it'll give a message that says your shop is open on another character so you can't open it. However, if you buy a different hired merchant you can open more than 1 shop if you use a different permit for each character.
