What a fun day.

Okay, first off here's the situation:

I arrived at school and sat down in my first block class. After the pledge, there was an announcement that all Juniors were to report to the Auditorium to take this State thing. First off, I live in NY so we have State Regents. I took my Comprehensive English Regents Exam in Jan of this year, and passed with like a 79. It's a 4 hour exam, not exactly the most fun of all things. Now, back on track. As we arrive we find out that it's a State sort-of mock up test. It gets packed up and set to the Regents center and looked at to see if they should change anything for FUTURE regents. It's sort of funny because apparently some people knew about it. I of course didn't. On our way down me and my friends jokingly poked about writing an essay (which we didn't know we had to do at the time) on a random topic.

So, I grab the scantron and essay booklet. What? Alright I guess, so there is an essay. I looked at my friends and was like, "Lets do those random topics". So I read the 2 passages and 2 poems and answered the 20 Multiple Choice questions. Easy enough, I got to the essay and had the perfect topic. Sooo, I ended up writing a 2.5 page essay on Dragonball Z (Lol). After I finished I ended up sitting there for an hour before getting out.

Now, fast forward to 4th Block. The last 10 or so minutes of Class me and my friend got called down to the Vice Principles office. On our way down, we found a few other of our friends and when we arrived, we were surprised by a few more. Turns out there was like 8 of us, and I KNEW more people didn't take the essay serious.

Here's the list of what we all wrote about.

Me - Dragonball Z
Josh - Generic Poptarts and giving Oreos to world leaders.
Gary - Tellytubbies
Chris - Lasagna
Mike - Pokemon
Justin - He incorporated Pokemon into his examples of what the essay task was.
Chelsea - Dinosaurs
Other Chelsea - 1 page of what was asked, another page of random words.

And there are another handful that didn't do it.

Now, at the beginning of the Test we were told several times that THIS TEST WILL NOT BE COUNTED/GRADED. IT WAS ALSO NOT AFFECT US IN ANY WAY. We all got called into the office as a huge group. She then proceeded to tell us that we didn't take it seriously and we'd have to stay after from 2-4 tomorrow (school dismisses at 2). What? pineapple that. I'm not wasting another 2 hours on something like this. The thing is, they pulled me out of Chemistry and Math, both of with have hard as hell regents and stole time away that I NEEDED to practice and prepare for them. We have like 4 classes left and taking one away isn't cool. Then 7/8 of us proceeded to argue with her, saying how they said we would be affected by this at all.

Thing is, was that even legal? The teachers were technically proctors and nothing more. They were there to administer the test and not look at it. So is them looking at it legal, my friend actually heard 2 other teachers talking about how "they weren't supposed to look at the tests".

Also, is this is justifiable? How can we get in trouble when so many other did the same and we were told beforehand that this won't effect us in any way.

Also, this is not a rant of rage. That's why it's not in the pits of hell.

tl;dr: Came to school to take a 2 hour not-real test that I didn't know about. Wrote about a topic for the essay that wasn't relevant and got in trouble along with several others. Justifiable? Y/N

Anyway, that's not justifiable. At all. However, it's a good reminder to think twice whenever doing stuff serious or not. Even if you don't like it, it would be smarter to actually do it properly in order to actually have the possibility to become what you want, correct?

Don't go to detention then. Call the guy out since it wasn't justifiable at all. Peach enough and you'll get out of it, trust me.

Lol, I did write an essay about DBZ this morning. I talked about how it began up to where Raditz was defeated. xD

Oh, and we all planned to not go to Detention.

That wasn't justifiable at all. Even on the real regents, you don't have to write anything. If you leave it blank or write random stuff that don't make sense, you just don't get points. They are concerned with how the state/city as a whole do for bragging rights and all (like those blah blah blah % up in campaign ads) but it's not their responsibility and it's your loss if you fail the regents.

Maybe this is a case like a Simpsons episode talked about. The test grades determined how much budget the school would get, so they're very concerned.

All in all though, this is simply ridiculous and you have every right to complain, especially since this is a mock test and not even the real thing.

Consequences? They clearly pointed out how this wasn't going to affect us in any way. Obviously not. And, I can get you a regents level Comprehensive English essay task, and then watch you tell my why you wouldn't want to do it either. They're not exactly the easiest to write.

And plus, it was a REALLY good laugh.

I love doing things like that for pointless test. I have written two bullsh[SIZE="2"]i[/SIZE]t essays, one on was on Coke and the other was on instant noodles. I never did hear about my results...

I don't think I can get the essay back. Today during 4th block, I got a note saying that I need to go to the Aud to take it again or there will be "further consequences". I'll end up getting called down tomorrow morning and just say that I "respectfully declined your offer to retake the essay portion of the test". God, I'mma get accused of insubordination when I really didn't do anything wrong.

I believe that this whole test thing works out that the better the school does, the more tax money they get in the end for school functions. They're just bent out of shape because like 40 students didn't take it seriously and only 20 or so of us are getting punished.

That reminds me of the time I wrote about MapleStory. It was a vocabulary test where we had to use the vocabulary words in a story, so nothing major like this happened.

This reminds me of what I did for the Math MCAS a few weeks ago.

I'm a pretty good math kid. So when I get this standardized test, which we need to pass to graduate, I don't take it seriously because it's designed so every single person in the school can pass. On an open response question, it told you there was a semi-circle mat with a rough interior and a Vinyl strip on the outside. The strip was 4 inches and the diamter of the rough interior was 28.
This is what ended up happening

Q: What is the radius of the rought interior of the mat?

A: 14. Since the diamter is 28, and the radius is half of that, 28/2=14. (Derp Derp Derp Theorem)

Q: What is the radius of the rough interior AND the vinyl strip?

A: 18. Since you just need to add on 4 to the radius, which is 14, you get 18. (Hurr Theorem)

I answered the questions right. I just threw some sass in there.

Even if a test or work is not graded or counted, it's important to still take it somewhat serious. It's okay to bullshit a couple parts here and there, but you gotta be subtile. That's what's called skillzorz.

Just go to your detention, you don't know what they can do to punish you for not coming. Suspension? More classes for you to miss and be upset about. Life's unfair at times, but just assume it. It might get worse if you don't.
