Speakers not working properly

From old thread, basically had to reformat comp and use diff OS from before. Not sure if that's causing the problem but here's the situation (Sorry for some non-technical terminology)

- two speakers that stand on side of monitor, connected together through wires, the one that controls volume also has the light green plug that's supposed to go to the back of the comp

- The two wires are connected and joined into a yellow "plug" that goes into my subwoofer, it works fine

- The light green plug when trying to put into the back tries to make a sound connection of some sort, but sound won't come out.

- Headphones won't work either

- However, when I plug headphones or the actual green plug into the socket onto the front of my cpu, it works properly

- The speaker that has the volume control + where the green plug comes from does not produce any sound (According to my brother, he actually listened for me but i'm pretty sure that's what is going on, just i haven't confirmed it 100% for myself). The other speaker works fine

- Both sides of my headphones work properly

So basically, the back part for the speaker plug isn't working i guess or it's not configured properly. The front one works. And also the speaker from which the green plug comes from may not be functioning at all as sound output.

Yea, I was thinking of that, but I don't have the original CD so I don't know of any way to get them except possibly microsoft.com or something. Not sure exactly what to get though and if they're gonna validate my windows, I can't get do that either (After the reformart, my windows isn't "genuine" anymore I guess until I go tell microsoft my situation, give them my product code or other information)

But yea drivers is the only thing i thought of off-hand but not sure exactly what to do about getting it again.

Do you have any documentation on what motherboard or sound card that you're using?

I can look it up at home [if you guys help me out on where to find that info :x]

But I was thinking during class, would it still be a driver problem if the "green slot" in the back doesn't seem to work but the one in the front does? And the fact that the the speaker from which the green plug is coming from doesn't seem to work in the front while the other speaker does produce sound also be something?

Back slot:

- Speakers don't work
- Headphones don't work

Front slot:

- Speaker with green wire doesn't work
- Speaker w/o green wire works
- Headphones work properly

So yea, apparently when i checked it for myself, both speakers work so this is what's going on:

Back slot (where you mainly put it): Does not work with anything. Does seem to try to make static or some connection noise when inserting it in

Front slot (Usually for headphone use): Works fine with speakers, headphones, etc
