Angel Ray or Bahamut?
#1
So my plan so far is this:

Lv 120: 2 Maple Hero, 1 SP Genesis
Lv 121: 3 Maple Hero
Lv 122: 3 Maple Hero
Lv 123: 1 Maple Hero , 1 Resurrection, 1 Genesis, Bahamut, or Angel Ray

Basically TKWizard's build. However, I would rather have angel ray before Bahamut. Is there a large benefit to getting Bahamut at this level, or could I really wait until later?

Genesis is much more important than any of those skills. It would be a waste to get Angel Ray or Bahamut at all until you deal with Genesis.

I misread your post that you weren't getting a point in Gen right away. I would suggest pumping Gen up immediately, and THEN get all the other stuff. The only truly crucial skills to you are Maple Warrior and Genesis, and Gen is more important. If you can get Gen 30 easily, get Gen up to lvl 15 to get used to the MP drain. Gen 15 drains MP like Gen 30. After you get Gen, pump MW to 9. Save points to upgrade MW to 19 and Gen to 30. Only after you've done that should you begin dumping into other skills.

If you can 2hko Newts with less than 15 Gen, leave it at that until you get Gen 30. Once you get Gen 30 it's worthwhile to max. But save up those points so you can max Gen immediately after passing the book.

If you're going to boss you also need Resurrection. Realistically, Horntail is now worthless and on Zakum, with Pirates, you probably only need one in Res.

tl;dr: upgrade Gen to as high as possible and save up to Gen 30, leaving it at 2hko Newt level; upgrade MW to 9, save up to MW 19; dump a point to Res and upgrade to 10 after dealing with MW and Gen. Then do other skills. I assure you those are less needed for you.

Get Genesis to 30 asap if you have the funds. It will make training extremely fast at Skelegons (With the Skelegon mini dungeon, you get even more experience)

After maxing Genesis, getting Bahamut would be my 2nd option. Its to deal with the leftover Skelegons that didn't die in one hit to your Genesis.

I should update that guide sometime! Man its totally outdated now.

Between those 2 options, definitely Angel Ray.

I use it all the time at mini-bosses. It makes things like pap soloing much more efficient, and boss soloing in general. You won't always have to rely on others to kill bosses. Without angel ray, your only other single target attack is magic claw - a first job skill - angel ray is a huge step up from it.

But then, it looks like you're talking about only putting 1 point one of them for now rather than maxing them.

Bahamut is nice for replacing summoning dragon for the few instances where they would be useful, and for the luxury of not having to carry summoning rocks around with you all the time. You should take note of its short timer (15 sec) at level one though.

Overall, bahamut is almost useless. It doesn't help with training, because you'll still kill the spawn in the same number of hits. At skeles, it unneccessarily aggros the skeles around you, making them buff up earlier than usual and blast you for its 3.5k laser beam. At bosses that you can attack at, angel ray does better damage; and at party-oriented bosses, it still does minimal damage and plently of people don't like it when you summon it because it blocks out/covers up other people, making it harder to navigate/see where you are.

If we're talking about builds including your other skills, max mw, a level of gene enough to 2hit (or max if you can afford it), and max res are very important.

In terms of build-wise, Genesis > almost everything. I'd get a point into Resurrection if you can. My Bishop at lv 146 has maxed Resurrection, lv 20 Gen (yeah, I'm slow, lol..), 15 Bahamut, and I think 2X Angel Ray. I forgot the exact levels.. But yeah, AR > Baha. Baha cannot be unbuffed either. Once you summon it, you can't turn it off. In some cases, at Skelegons, if you accidentally summon Bahamut, it will aggro Skeles. Thus, making it harder for you to Gen them...

AR definitely beats Habamut. In the earlier levels, if you do get Bahamut, get only a couple points into it. Like 2-5, whatever. It's not that great, except for:

-If you don't OHKO something, and that monster has less than 1-2% HP left, Bahamut will finish it off.
-Looks cool.
-Hits in mobs

Angel Ray is not better than MW.

Let's say you have 800 int. MW9 gets you 40 int on top of all that... for three levels worth of SP? MW20 is cheap now. So that's like 80int.

Who wouldn't KILL for 80 extra int on their gear? Also, keep in mind that's an extra permanent 8 MP on each of your level ups.

I don't think even stuff like Pap should be picked over Newting. By Newting you'll get levels faster, period, so you'll get all those other skills faster too.

Skelegon Mini dungeon > Newtie (period)

I would get Genesis 30 and MW20 (Hell, even MW30 when its out) but since I lack the funds, I'm stuck for now!

we don't have mini dungeons though......

Get bahamut. It helps kill mobs around you (especially if you can gen + bahamut atk to kill a skele), and it will do damage for you during boss fights as you're healing your party.

I dunno, I have a few points in Bahamut and it's pretty damn useless. The aggro's a bit obnoxious, and when I really need it it doesnt' hit as far as Dragon does.
That said I have points in AR too and I like it better a lot. 3 points in it does roughly the same damage as SR and slightly more. [also 8k on holy weak, depending on MDEF o:]

I personally did Angel Ray before Bahamut, and still don't regret it. My Angel Ray is maxed and my Bahamut is at lvl 10.

Once you get your maple warrior/genesis priorities sorted out, Angel Ray should be the first priority to focus on easily. It makes sniping off the stray skeles/newties much easier, whereas Bahamut might aggro the skeles and make them give you a face load of lazer.

Plus, Angel Ray gives you constant knock back for papulatus (once it does 10,000 damage), allowing you to pin him easier if you ever attempt to solo him. Having a higher level bahamut combined with angel ray works for a quicker kill, though.

One point wise...
AR kills Bahamut.

You only have one point to spare.Glitter

I would definitely get Genesis to a level where you can 2HKO Skeles. Then get MW20 while the books are still <20m.

As for Bahamut vs Angel Ray, I did Bahamut first and I found it useless once you 100% 2HKO. All it does is aggro monsters around you. I would do Angel Ray so you can at least solo some bosses such as Pap.
