Sp irc
#1
Hi. Can someone help me connect to IRC? I have tried Opera native chat, ChatZilla, and Pidgin, to no avail. I'm not really sure what I should be doing, but it seems to just take a very long time to connect to irc.psigenix.net ... ... which it never does, and then I give up and try something else. Did something happen to psigenix or am I missing something obvious? Many thanks.

it's still Psigenix. Make sure ports 6667, 6668, 6669, and 7000 aren't being blocked. Can't think of any other reasons you might be having trouble though.

Mmmm, well, the Java applet isn't even loading on either Opera or Firefox (only Internet Explorer, how unfortunate!). It's just a blank grey rectangle, regardless of the characters. When it does load in IE, then, yeah, it doesn't like the heart in my name. I wonder what the problems in Opera and Firefox are?

Thanks Isaac. I'm not sure how to check if ports 6667-7000 are blocked? I'm on my home internet connection, where no one blocks anything, if that helps. I have tried on both my computers.... Maybe it's time to steal someone else's.

Its based on your router settings.

Use http://www.canyouseeme.org/ to check the status of the ports.

Wow. Thank you thank you. you and Isaac are entirely correct. ALL ports are blocked. How does a router work... Sad. The website says "Connection timed out" under the error notice, not sure if that helps.

My father controls the router, and we're currently on minimally speaking terms. Would you know what exactly needs to be done so I can ask him a favour in the fewest possible words? :X

you'll need the password to access the router and unblock the ports I listed (or at least one of them). How you'd actually go about doing that will depend on your router manufacturer.
