Spilled Water On Laptop

About 8 hours ago I spilled some water on the keyboard portion of my HP laptop. I quickly cleaned it off with a towel and a sham wow to suck up most of the water. I then unplugged it and removed the battery. It turns on and the fan starts going, then when the fan begins to pick up speed it shuts off. It seems to be able to last longer. I had this problem in the summer when I didn't even spill anything on it. I'm just curious to see what I should do. Should I take it apart and clean everything. If it doesn't work on Monday, I'll take it to a repair shop...how much would it cost and would they be able to fix it?

I'm not really sure why it's doing that. But, if it makes you feel any better I spilt a huge glass of Sprite on my last laptop and it worked fine afterwards. Granted it was a little sticky, but it worked like normal.

Personally I don't see what the water would have done if this problem was around since summer. You may want to take a look at the fan or temperature (or both) hardware to make sure they're working properly.

Also in case you spill some fluids into your laptop, you really should wait at least 24 hours before even attempting to turn it on again.

I know HP laptops have a history of "overheating." But, my parents are convinced that I'm just making it up. I'm pretty sure in the summer it was just overheating, because it kept turning off when I was on my account as well...I really dont know how water could have damaged since I turned it off almost immediately and there was no smoke/sounds.

If it's not working tomorrow, off to Best Buy I go.

Heh, I've seen worse. Beers + red-wined pukes on a laptop (and it still work). But you should really leave it to dry up. Also, if the water did cause some circuitry problems, it's likely your laptop wont turn on at all.
