scrolling issue

Another question. So I got my superior gollux ring (six slots clean) yesterday and spammed 5 advanced gollux scrolls. First fail next four pass. But when I looked at the upgrade count on the ring it said 2 slots left (no hammers used yet). Then I look on the screen chat bar and it says - upgrade count does not change due to "clean failure" effect. What the hell is that? I did not use a safety on it. Is this part of the new scroll trace system. Confused can someone explain pls.

If you look in the Guild Skills, there is one called Upgrade Salvation. That's what saved the slot.
