Router Constantly Failing?

My brother just got a 180 Gigabyte external hard drive and has been downloading movie torrents constantly using our wireless internet. Before this occurred the router was always connected and supported the desktop and my dad's laptop. However, whenever my brother is downloading torrents, yesterday he was downloading about 9 or 10 at once, the internet on the desktop is either really slow or the router fails completely. I am currently getting extremely frustrated along with other members of my family since while he is downloading our computer can only maintain a connection for ten minutes, fail, reset router, connect, get back on for another ten minutes, and repeat. Playing MapleStory efficiently is impossible and my stress level is rising. Is there anyway to make sure that the desktop stays connected to the router while he is downloading useless torrents or do I just need to buy a better router. Right now we are using a TRENDnet Wireless G Broadband Router, model TEW-432BRP. The desktop is connected directly to the router via a ethernet cord, but I don't believe it is connected directly to the cable modem. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The reason why you have to reset is because your brother is taking up ALL the bandwidth. You resetting the router "fixes" the problem because it disconnects your brother from all the other seeds/leechers he's downloading from and it takes a few mins to reconnect/find new seeder on the trackers.

There is nothing you can do unless you ask your brother to set a uploading/downloading speed limit on his torrent client (this may vary depending on how fast your internet is).

He can also schedule his torrents to download say...only when everyone is sleeping (after 11pm) or during the day when everyone's at work.

There are more advanced routers out there that allow you to allocate bandwidth to different computers, but those are business class routers and usually costs a lot.
