For any FFT fans:

Final Fantasy Tactics is a pretty old game; it's true. The graphics are certainly not next-gen, the equipment and job selections are rather limited, and the overall difficulty's very tame. Despite these flaws, there are still many websites devoted to the discussion of it; one of which is called Final Fantasy Hacktics, and I've been a member there for over half a year.

The difference between this site and every other are their purposes. While others are purely for fans to discuss the base game, users of Hacktics actually edit the content of it. Using tools found in various places on the site, you're actually able to edit most any value found in the data, meaning if you've ever felt Squires should be able to wield guns and spears, you're able to. It gets much deeper than that, though, which becomes obvious once you take a look at the forums.

In the forums, there are entire sections devoted solely to spriting (yes, inserting custom sprites), users' projects, ripped data, tools, etc. The bigger projects which have shown significant progress are given individual sections, as are seemingly complete revamps of the game.

If you're interested in patching Tactics on your own, you'll definitely want to lurk alot. All of the necessary tools can be found on the main page and you'll require basic knowledge of the processes in order to get anywhere. You'll also need a working ISO. Hell, I was tweaking only a few days after first discovering the site, myself.

Keep in mind that most projects are works in progress and if you do end up joining their forum, please represent SP as well as possible.

interesting, depending on the difficulty of the tools, i may look into fiddling around with the code. I should probably finish tactics if want to look for certain aspects to mess with.

Heh. Romhacking more or less.

Has anyone created an actual new game based off of the engine of FFT? Like Super Metroid -> Super Metroid Redesign / Infinity / etc or the countless Super Mario Rom Hacks? I think there's also a FF...III? Romhack floating around that was started at SomethingAwful. Awful Fantasy or something like that.

Oh. My. Goodness.

I LOVED THAT GAME BEYOND BELIEF. IT WAS JUST TOO EPIC.
Okay sorry about that...

It's great to see that people are still doing stuff with old games. When I saw the title "FFT", I was like, "Final Fantasy Tactics"...? And when I came in, I was like, "Holy cow."

Anyone that still hasn't finished it on the PS1 better finish it. Tongue It's too good to pass on.

I may be biased in favor of FFT, but good luck with what you're working on. I'll be lurking around. :3

one reason why i havnt finished it was it seemed a lil off balance in the fights, mainly because the enemies were all lvl based on Ramsa (idk name?) so when trying to build up the characters, you could either train the others without Ramsa out there foremaking it slow in the story, or you could get asspineappled from having Ramsa a lvl or two higher than everyone else.

But a nice draw of it was the style of the game, which would be nice to see put to use in other kinds of games.
