Buying Wii or Wii U?

CarrionCrow Wrote:Yes. We are not there yet, so one generation back compatibility is not bad and is almost always included, but in a decade or so games will not even be sold in physical copies to begin with. It is not like backwards compatibility is a historical standard either, we have only had it for 2 generations of consoles, more or less.
And in most instances, if you have the game, you have the console.

Even If games stop being sold physically, the backwards compatibility should be granted by making available to transfer that content from your old console to your next one. Nintendo did it, yet Sony wont do that little. As for having the previous console if you have the games, there are many reasons why you wouldn't, from your console blowing up (360 anyone?) to the most common, selling it in order to fund your new one.

Yeah backward compatibility is a thing that all consoles should have. Pretty stupid why they aren't having it. It also allows them to come out with fewer new games on release. It feels too much like your being ripped off when they dont have it. Unless its like N64-> Gamecube where the Games take two completely different physical forms.

Almost always? No, only nintendo truly felt it was worthwhile. Sony ripped it out of the ps3 almost immediately, and the 360 was hit and miss. Only around 1/4 of Xbox games actually work on 360s.

The fact that PS4 won't carry over digital purchases from the ps3 is a pisstake at best. Peopel whine about nintendo not having an account system or whatever, but they are the ones who came up with a way to transfer all your wii games while Sony didn't/can't. We don't know about the approach that MS is taking yet.

Quote:It is not like backwards compatibility is a historical standard either, we have only had it for 2 generations of consoles, more or less.

Unless you look at handhelds. GB-> GBC/A -> DS -> 3DS all had a generation of BC. If it wasn't for the huge shift in media from n64 to GC, I'd bet that would have had BC too, not that we can prove that.

Quote:And in most instances, if you have the game, you have the console.
Consoles get old and eventually break. Including BC for a gen is good way to get a good library and show get some consumer goodwill.

Besides that, not necessarily. I haven't had a ps3 this generation. If I bought a PS4 and had access to the huge library of ps3 games, I absolutely would buy a significant amount of them. Same goes for *insert console here*.

Quote:I disagree to a certain degree, games that would never have been considered for the Wii seems to be up for Wii U release, like Darksiders 2 and Batman: Arkham City. I am sure the trend will go that way. Less and less game houses develop for one console and that trend will probably continue.

It's all well and good now, before 720/ps4 come out. I seriously doubt the support will continue once 360/ps3 support dies away. Hell, other than ubisoft, most of the 3rd parties aren't even trying to support the wii u when it'd just be a cut/paste job. If you're only buying Mario/Zelda/Metroid on a nintendo home console (replace metroid with pokemon on handhelds) you're not doing it right.

Not even close (if you ignore illegally getting games anyway, because I'm not doing that).

Looking at third party support, I feel like third parties already dismissed the Wii U before it even launched. If you look at the list of launch titles/launch window titles Nintendo and Sony announced, Nintendo just got a bazillion ports. The only third party original IP that came out at launch is Zombie U. No third party even bothered developing a sequel to an already existing series. I guess you can also throw in the obligatory yearly sports games from EA. And I think there was a rabbids game in there. But I don't think Nintendo really wants to focus on the Party genre.

Look at Sony the Sony conference and they got Destiny, Deep Down, a new Final Fantasy, and the Witness.

I feel like there's just an unjustified industry spawned bias against the Wii U. They see the Wii brand and they think that it's where all the shovelware and ports should go. It's a catch 22 if I ever saw one.

You're kidding right? Almost the entire ps3/xbox360 library is on PC, wiiu is the only system that doesnt have a legal method for getting games.

Nope. Just off the top of my head, games that I would want to play (On ps3) that are console only (And to be nice, I'm even going to skip over 1st/2nd party stuff from sony)

Tales of Vesperia/Graces/Xillia
Valkyria Chronicles 1
3D Dot game heroes
Bayonetta
Eternal Sonata.
Final fantasy : Corridor sim 13 1/2/3
Naruto/DBZ animu games because Im a sucker.
Okami HD
MArvel VS capcom 3

And I'm certain there are more, and on top of those, everything first/2nd party from sony.

Edit: Actually, let wikipedia do the hard work for me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Xb...only_games

204 exclusive games on PS3 and 246 on Xbox360 I.e., not on PC

No idea when those lists were last updated, but clearly a significant amount of games are, in fact, not on pc.

Contradicts this page;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pla...on_3_games

There are currently 772 games (multiplatform: 621; exclusive: 143; console exclusive: 8) and 15 cancelled games on this list as of January 14, 2013.

Lmao, there's only 2 dozen games even worth buying off your list...if that. Not that a virtual machine couldn't change that lol

24 games would be more than I've found worth my time on pc. And most of those I could have played on a (Cheaper!) console.

Edit: Even assuming that other page is right (It might not be), so there are 8 ps3 games that are "exclusive" but are also on pc. Big deal. Still leaves 135 titles that aren't on pc.

My computer cost me 1 grand 2 years ago, for above average equipment. My sister has a ps3 that cost $400 during release iirc with the smaller GB drive. That's nearly half the price of my computer for half the quality. Seriously ps3 produces some of the grainiest pieces of sh`it I have ever seen in my life. Not including the television that would cost additional $500 for a minimum 40 inch. That's nearly the price of my computer *yes including monitor, gaming mouse and keyboard.*

Now the new generation games is coming out, and I can choose to upgrade my video card for $200, although it is absolutely unnecessary, vs purchasing an entirely new system for how much? Probably around $350-400. I mean I figured it's common sense you invest bank into something that overtime will surpass and save you money? And don't try that BS about how "The games run fine on the system. They are made by computers, their full potential is dedicated towards computers, they are ported to consoles which are inferior.

You can keep your point that 20% ps3 games are not available for pc.

Yeah, lets compare a 40 inch tv to a much smaller monitor, clearly that's a fair comparison. pineapple knows if they even make monitors that big, I certainly couldn't see any of them in a quick search of uk shops. And, unsurprisingly, my quick search turned up that you can get TVs of roughly equivalent size could be had for much cheaper than an equivalent monitor in the 25''ish range.

You seem to think I mind that they don't meet their "full potential". Like I care. It's literally good enough for me that they run on the system at a constant decent frame rate. And yes, I think 30fps is good enough.

Even more so when the PC versions get hilarious delays compared to the console games, which happens more often than I am comfortable with.

There's no point arguing with you because it's a stubbornness issue, not a fact issue, as all the facts are kind of on my side.

If graphics are something really important to you and you like any game that incorporates aiming/shooting, then a gaming PC is the way to go... which is actually most of PS3 and 360 library lol. Now if you want something of a balance gaming experience, you should get a console. There aer other things on a console that you wont get on a PC aswell, like live multiplayer, which is always best than online.

If I'm not mistaking, the new wii's (not WiiUs), come with a wii plus remote. My parents got my son a skylanders wii bundle for Christmas, and his came with the plus remote.

I buy Nintendo products mostly for Nintendo first party games. Most of my friends have a 360/ps3 so if i really want i can go to their house or borrow their console for a while. I'm the only person i knw im my area that has a Wii U. Dont know if it was worth it for the Wii U yet, but it sure was for the 3ds.
