Do you still need the squad medal to enter the cave of life whenever you like? If so, does the quest to get the squad medal change at all?

Not yet. Just wondering if it's worth grabbing the squad medal (or at least the items for the HTPQ needed to get the squad medal) in advance mostly.

As far as I know the map layout won't change so you'll still need the badge to get to the signup point.
