I suggest a more mobile character to farm with. I use a dawn warrior. Decent door helps a lot...kinda.

It won't kill you on it's own but it's killed me at grandpa before. I didn't really want to risk trying after that.

I think it's somewhere along the lines of like 10-15 seconds depending on mob size. with maxed laser, it's almost like having a permanent "bubble".
