Just installed a new video card (nVidia 8500 GT) and upon loading, I get to the windows screen. After that, goes black, and you can hear windows loading in the back.

I worked with it for about 4 hours with messing in the bios to get just that going, then got a boot drive error. Took care of that. Now I just want my new damn video card to work.

Anyone with any suggestions?

Is it installed properly?

As in, it's in the computer properly.

I used the disc that came with it to install the drivers. Said that it was installed.

Do you have an integrated graphics chip? If so, your PC may be doing what mine did when I installed a new graphics card.

When I installed my new graphics card, I would see the boot screen, but once windows started loading, it went black, but I could still hear the sound of windows booting in the background. What I did to fix it was to plug my monitor back into the old integrated chip. When I did that, I could see windows. Right click your desktop (XP instructions, don't know about vista) and select properties. Then go to the settings tab, if it did what mine was doing, there will be a two monitor set-up on this screen now. Click on the monitor that list your new graphics card.

You should see some boxes to tick, click "use this as the primary display" or something like that. Tick it, click the other monitor image to check the properties of the old card, and make sure to untick the box that says "extend windows onto this display". That should disable you old integrated chip. Click ok, everything will go black again. Now plug your monitor into the new graphics card and everything should be working. This may not be a definate fix for you, but it's what I had to do to get my card to work properly. By default, my PC was still trying to display everything off the old integrated chip after I installed the new card.

I wasn't that lucky. Custom built PC didn't come with one when I got it from a friend.

If you upgraded from an integrated graphics card, goto your bios and DISABLE the integrated graphics card.

That's the thing, as specified, I can't do anything with the PC. I've upgraded from a PCI Video card to this one. After trying to get into the old video card just to work more, my computer won't read the card.

Use the old video card, download the 8500 drivers from Nvidia's site, install it, shut down the computer, reinstall the 8500 and start up the computer.

I hope your computer have the required slots for the 8500..

Also try running crystalmark with the old video card

After talking to PNY support, I've found out that theres some sort of corruption in a needed file.

Next question(s):
I don't have a windows XP disk readily available, yet may have one from there. Guessing I boot the computer from CD and try to repair windows?

If I have a Vista reinstallation DVD from another computer, would that allow for installation of Vista?

Any responses would be nice.

windows should recognize it, *plug-and-play*.

my guess is, it is trying to run in like 1280-960 with 75HZ, and ur monitor does not support

do that, before your windows start loading, start pressing *F8*, at black scree, chose *run in safe mode*(i think is that), your windows will start with bag graphics, almost no drivers, then configure ur resolution to 800x600 and 60HZ, restart, it should solve the problem

Windows is stuck on loading drivers\mup.sys file. That's the error that caught PNY support's attention. I'm gonna try a few things before I go any more bat pomegranate crazy than I already am.

Please lock. I've resolved the issue. Installed fresh copy of Vista
