This makes me nerd rage like nothing else.

Kay so, I got a pretty pro FM spot (FM 1 CH 3 bit'ches) and I'm just vending away like a happy little camper, yanno how it goes. Anyway, I go to bed with hopes and dreams of waking up with all my items sold like anyone does. BUT when the time comes to stretch my body and scratch my ass, I turn on my monitor to find out I'm still logged in. Which is good right? WRONG. I go to click on what items sold and then my screen spazzes and I DC.

THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME.

WHY? I know it means I DC'd A LONG TIME AGO, but why does my client stay up, and WHY am I even DCing in the first place? My connection is perfectly fine.

RAGE.

This happens to me too- one time started vending at about 9 PM and went upstairs to play some rock band before I went to bed, decided to check on my PC only an hour later and it already was locked up and DCd...

Have the computer running with power-saving stuff is bad for you:

Fix that, it helped me.
If not, get the wireless connection away and find the wire.

Ooh, thanks. I'll have to try this when I get home and see if it works overnight.

I'll be back here whining if it doesn't. Rolleyes

Turning off the monitor is perfectly fine. It's other power settings that cause it.

This happens to me more than I'd like (of course, any of it is more than I'd like), but for some reason it happened a lot more when I got spots in low-numbered rooms. Hmmmm...

Anyway, the reason your game stays up is that it doesn't know it's been disconnected. The MapleStory client can run for quite a long time with no server interaction, as you have seen. If it's no longer connected, you won't have a problem until you try to do something that requires it to talk to the server, such as closing your shop or trying to /find someone. At that point, the game sends a message to the server and it doesn't get through, and suddenly it realizes it's not connected any more.

(Remember the Roadrunner cartoons? Maple is like Wylie Coyote running off of a cliff. He's fine until something happens to make him look down....)

I turned off the monitor (like, button on screen ya know) but kept that option as never. I'm not sure if it affects or not, but I just felt being on the safe side Rolleyes

Perhaps your connection idles after a certain amount of time. Some connections will kill itself after a few minutes if it's not being used.

This happens to me every time, I even messed with the power scheme settings or whatever. I have Vista (life sucks), sometimes it even updates while I'm leaving it on overnight then I wake up to a restarted computer, my desktop and a notice explaining the update.

This doesn't happen to me everytime, buy often. I think it's MY connection problem.

Interesting, I get the same problem occasionally. I wish Nexon would be more environmental and make hired merchants last for 90 days and remove traditional stores. Think of how much energy they waste... all those computers left on over night.

You can tell Vista to stfu you know. I get extremely pissed off to no end when Vista decides to screw me over at a boss fight because it wants to update, so I told it to fking update and do popups ONLY WHEN I WANT IT TO!

Yeyz, emotions, I have and hate Vista too =D

You can just turn off automatic update altogether, and manuel update whenever you want to O_o.

Yeah, patches and server maintenance are great windows of opportunity for manual updates. Biggrin

Just checking in to let you all know that I'm 2 days into vending and I'm STILL LOGGED IN.

How's that for victory?

Oh, congratulations.

I was going to suggest setting up your connection to ping a random site every 5 minutes.
