Professions Magic Powder?

So all herbs have the phrase:
"It can be refined to obtain rare magic powder ([color])."

Some people say that you obtain powder by failing to create something, is this true?
Is there any other way to obtain magic powders?

I seem to get it occasionally while refining ores, even though it claims there's no fail chance. I haven't found a use for them yet as a level 5 accessory maker.

It's a 100% chance that you'll get something, not necessarily what you want. Ores and herbs that claim to give powders have a 90% chance of producing the refined version and a 10% chance of giving you the powder instead.

Powders are really only used by Alchemists.

There are no other ways of getting powders, that I know of.

So does this mean magic powders just inflated drastically in price since all the high leveled potions require magic powders and you only have a 10% chance of obtaining them?

The only reason you need powders for Alchemy is to make transformation pots. Green and black should inflate because they are used to make those new throwing stars. Some powders are also used to make Androids.

I guess those are the ones that should inflate a little.

you also need powders to make extractors.

A majority of the better buffing potions also use powders. Purple is the powder used for the best potions, like Advanced Health Boost.

i have godknows so many powders and luk crystals saved from hunting aliens, lol
