Playing asEvan -- Post Chaos!

In a previousAcornStory, we discussed how to pick a character type that fits your play style. In In this AcornStory, we're focusing on Evan, one of the two "Hero" classes in the game. Unlike Explorers or Cygnus Knights, Hero classes are based on a specific character concept and work a bit differently than other classes. First, Heroes start out fairly powerful and work with a specific weapon or combat style. Second, while they do grow in power and gain new abilities, their advancement path is fairly linear. You won't be able to develop a specific "type" of Evan, nor will you be as versatile as an Explorer or a Cygnus Knight.

The offset to this is that Hero classes have unique gameplay mechanics and abilities that aren't shared by any other class. Evan is a ranged damage dealer somewhat similar to an Explorer Magician. Unlike a Magician however, most of Evans powers are channeled through his pet, a dragon named Mir.

Post Chaos information:Advanced players looking through this edition of AcornStory are advised to watch for this tag. The Chaos "Age of Heroes" update made significant changes to many existing Evan skills and added four new skills that will be very important to Evan.

Who is Evan?

Unlike Explorers or Cygnus Knights, Evan comes with his own specific backstory and character concept that will reveal itself as the character levels up. In summary, Evan is the heir to the legacy of a great hero named Freud and his friend, the great dragon Afrien. Hundreds of years ago, Freud and Afrien joined themselves in a spirit pact to help fight for justice in Maple World. Together with four other great heroes, they confronted the Black Mage during his first attempt to rule Maple World. In the end, however, they were defeated. In the final battle, Afrien sacrificed himself, blocking a spell meant to destroy his human friend and leaving behind one Dragon egg. Freud took it away and placed it in hiding, waiting for the day when another human, as pure of heart as he, could form a spirit pact with the egg, bond with the new dragon, and pick up where he and Afrien had left off. It fell to Evan, the child of pig farmer, to discover the egg in the forest and bond with the young dragon, Mir.

You'll start your career as Evan at level one. Youll do a number of quests for family members on your fathers pig fam. Eventually, youll be asked to chase after a lost pig, and when you do, youll stumble on the lost dragon egg. When it hatches, youll meet Mir. This adorable dragon will be your companion for the rest of your career as Evan.

The casting speed for all skills has been increased and the damage output has been modified accordingly. The performance and effects of many skills have been adjusted. <font color="#000000">Evan's Skills and Skill/Ability Points

Characters in MapleStory grow stronger in two basic ways. As characters kill monsters, they obtain "experience points" (abbreviated EXP). When they attain a certain amount of EXP, they'll rise in level. For each level they attain, they'll receive a certain number of Skill Points and Ability Points that they can use to acquire new skills and powers that can be used to fight monsters as well as to improve their basic abilities.

Skill Points -- Evan

Skill Points are used to learn new powers that help Evan kill monsters or increase the power of an already learned skill. Many Maplers have taken it upon themselves to write detailed guides that recommend various Evan "builds" - lists of skills and the suggested distribution of Skill Points they believe make Evan as efficient and useful as possible.

This guide won't recommenda specific build, but will point out a few sampleEvan skills.

Note: CertainSkills will not be available until you reach a certain level.

Pro Tip: Unlike any other class, Evan will alsogain some extra Skill Points when completing certain quests. Look forthe New Hero quests in your quest log toobtain these Skill Points.


Lightning Bolt: Mir can br

Lightning Bolt: Mir can breathe out a great bolt of lightning to zap enemies.

At level 50, if you’ve been playing through the New Hero quests in your quest log, you’ll be able to complete a character quest which will net you a saddle that you can use to turn Mir into a flying mount!

Soul Stone: This applies a buff to one party member at random.

Post BB the need for MG is not really great until 100+. I do like how they make it sound like Evans mount is special though.

The changes makes them better bossers, but since all LHC mobs lost their fire weakness they are not going to level as fast. Flame Wheel did not really speed up much, and earthquake got nerfed in power and range.

They were never that great really, the only interesting thing about them is the storyline. They are a great job if you want new skills every now and then instead of waiting 40 - 50 levels.

Interesting storyline? If you saw/read Eragon there's nothing much new...

Is the loss intentional?

I'm totally -NOT- enjoying my Evan Onyx Glasses mule, it's lvl73 now, and it's crap...

The range of all the attacks is just TOO SHORT!!! 400% range on them for a ranged -Hero- class wouldn't hurt, Nexon...

Maybe I'm used to my long range Mechanic attacks, but 300% range is really stupid... especially for a proclaimed-by-Nexon ranged attacker that does not have vertical range like Ice Strike or Explosion from 3rd job mages...

Sometimes it even feels like playing a warrior with teleport... lol...

And of course the stupid CS skillbooks... :/
Also the Ice and Fire breath attacks suck balls, they have a chargeup... really... WHY or WHERE wouldn't you want to use a mass repeat mobbing attack at FULL power EVERY time you use it? Really... lol... WHEN?!?!? o.0

I used Fire circle (2nd job Evan lvl20) till lvl60, because all other training skills were too damn slow, now I'm using Dragon Rush to train to lvl80 for the glasses, but if I would train to lvl120+, I can see myself using Dragon Rush till lvl120 (Flamewheel)... so pathetic... :S

Also... Is Illusion really only 250% range? That's the same range as Hero's Brave Slash right? Ranged attacker my ass... xD

The pure speed of Dragon Rush is ok though... though I don't know if that received an upgrade or not.

Now if they made Fire Circle and Dragon Rush 400% range, it would definitely fix Evans from lvl20~lvl120...
