I played the 3DS today

Nintendo has this event going on where they set up "pods" in major cities (Chicago, New York, San Fran, LA) and you can play games. It was really fun. I played Pilotwings, SteelDiver, Street Fighter, Madden, and the AR game where you shoot faces. (Top scores on all of them, just sayin'). It took a little bit of time to find the right length at which to hold the 3DS, but once I did, it was easy to keep it in that frame. Steel Diver had me spinning like a top but the stylus use would probably cramp my hands after a little bit of time, Pilot wings was really friggen cool, so Star Fox has to be amazing, by default, Madden was a lot more fun than expected, Street Fighter was hard, and the Mii head shooting game was enjoyable, and also had me spinning like top. But, the AR was really well done.

I can easily see why the battery would run out so quick. The 3D was generally really well done.

The only thing, I'm still not sure if I want to get this one. It's definitely a "not immediate" buy, since there aren't that many good games for it, but most of those will come after E3. I want to know if there'll be a Lite version, since that took the original DS, and made it a bazillion times better.

All in all, it was fun, but the bad battery life is something to greatly worry about.

I don't aim to get a 3DS until after OoT is released, anyway.

I don't really mind low battery life, since I'll most likely play with it plugged in most of the time, like I do with my DS anyway.



I really hope they make a side-scrolling Metroid game for the 3DS. I hear they were working on one for the DS called "Metroid Dread" (horrible name for a Metroid game, in my opinion), but since that never went through, I hope they bring back the project or bring another, similar one to life for the 3DS. That would be awesome.



Edit : Oh, yeah... How was the effect on your eyes? Did you get sleepy-eyed after some time playing it? Did it effect your vision at all after a few minutes? I'm not sure if you played it long enough for it to have an effect, but those warnings/rumors I've been hearing are kind of scary if this thing can permanently affect your eye sight.

All in all, it was fun, but the bad battery life is something to greatly worry about.

That's not too big. O_o Besides, adding more bulk adds more comfort, in my opinion. Holding onto my DS Lite cramps my hands because it's so small and I don't have much to rest my hands with. Just one of my hands are bigger than my DS Lite alone, so a big 3DS is welcomed for me.

Hm you're right, it doesn't look too big. I just don't like getting 3rd party accessories in general. Unfortunately, if they do release a 3DS 2/Lite that addresses the low battery life issue, it probably won't be for a year and a half at least.

My eyes felt fine after about 30 or so mins. of playing. I didn't feel any bad effects and that was with the 3D on max. I've read up about the battery pack, and while it would be nice, I'd rather not have to buy anything extra, just so I could use the machine to it's fullest potential.

I went to one of these Pods yesterday. It was great, and I did a size comparison of the 3DS vs the DS Lite. Its almost similar!

Oh yeah, my eyes didn't go dizzy from the 3D effect either.

OoT for the 3DS is still three months away though..
