The Universe.

...wow, a discussion about the Jak series and the whole thing being a predestination paradox lead me to looking up pumpernickel about a fourth dimension, and, eventually, the Universe. Which leads me to a whole lot of questions and asking for theories being simplified, because it's kinda hard for me to digest them.

Okay so...first things first. If our Universe isn't the ONLY Universe out there, which I am aware is currently beyond human comprehension, what would logically exist (If it's possible to logically come up with anything) outside of it? I understand that if there is reality outside our Universe, EVERYTHING besides dimensionality would be completely different. Even so, two-dimensionality up to seven-dimensionality for all I care could exist. All of this is beyond our comprehension, but it's so damn interesting. I'm actually looking forward to how the LHC goes, to see if the Big Bang theory is actually true, which could lead to a whole lot of questions being answered.

Well, a theory is that there are infinite universes existing, with infinite different timelines. And that's a lot of universes and timelines. Consider yourself dying in the next second, then the next second, then the next millisecond/nanosecond, then even shorter. This is all happening in another timeline of our universe. Hell, in some timelines, you don't even exist.

There's no point asking a question like this, to be honest. It's like asking 'what came before the universe?' Your guess is as good as anyone else's. Any information that we have of anything that ever existed is part of this universe only, regardless if there are other universes outside this one or not.

Just to give my 2 cents...

I believe there are multiple universes out there, some more sophisticated and superior than others, and some more prehistoric seeming. For all we know, we're being controlled by a similar, more advanced society that has indeed recorded are ways of life, and is now controlling them, just giving us thoughts, emotions, etc. to make it seem like we don't know. Somewhat like a very advanced computer program, beyond the limitations that craft modern day robotics.

I believe that there is the possibility, of somewhere in another dimension, a creature, if you may, just like a human, typing on a computer-like device, replying to other creatures, playing games and sports, and having fun. I believe that theorizing like this could lead to massive discoveries, because it's almost 100% certain that there are other things out there. The limitations of current day devices forbid us from venturing further out to the edge of our own universe...the third dimension...Length, Width, and Height...the 17 billion light years to the edge...until we are certain that we can come up with machines that will take us beyond this barrier.

Well, Alysha, you're right. <_< How about a discussion of the theories of the end of the Universe? Because this is all too interesting. -shrugs-

I don't know about you guys, but I got my hands full just dealing with the 25 miles around my house. I also did not do too well in physics, so I don't think I am qualified to talk about this stuff. I think I'll let the physics PhDs deal with the universe, and let myself deal with something more manageable.

Isn't the prevailing theory about the end of the universe heat death? I think they found that the Big Crunch isn't possible, because the universe is continuing to expand, even faster than before.

According to the Mayans, their cycle starts on new (it's a 5120 years long cycle).

But it also marks the date when Niburu or Commonly known as, "Planet X", comes through our solar system.

Technically, that's a philosophy - phenominalism IIRC. Basically that we are only sure that our mind exists. We only perceive the outside world through our senses, which are no more than electrical impulses sent to our brain. So you all could be real, or simply figments of a bored mind.

Even if that were true, the doomsday theorists predict the end of the world. Our world =/= the universe.

I pondered the infinite universe thing before, and wondered. What if every time you've been presented with choice (not the illusion, actual choice) the universe replicated into another one where you chose a different path (1 for each path, at any possibly point in time). But that is rather human-centric (choice-centric?) and highly unlikely unless there is a God. Which seems to be rather risque in modern thought...

As for doomsday theories: Don't believe them. Humans like to be scared, humans like to believe they are the last. We would like to know how we will end. And we're (as a species) subconsciously (or even consciously) suicidal, please excuse my pessimism.

I don't know. Even if there are other universes out there, what are the chances that we'll be able to come into contact with them in the rest of our living years? Probably zero. And that, sadly, means that we're really all alone.
