ClawofBeta Wrote:Now that I think about it, how would you like it if your brother blocked you from Maplestory O_o.

first he doesn't know it's me, he thinks that runescape gives some sort of virus.
2nd i haven't touched maplestory for over a week and i'm ok with that. I only play when i have the time to.

Kasuhitomi Wrote:Runescape is indeed browser-based. Easiest way to do this is to manually config your router and set it to block whatever IP address/port Runescape is. Done.

the thing is i don't want to block it. cause if i do, he'll know it's me. I just created some kind of virus, which he thought that he got from playing runescape, to make him quit.

Judgment Wrote:From how the way the OP said this, perhaps his brother is addicted to that game to the point of it being disruptive to his other priorities. (School, family, friends, etc.)

So if that was the case, then yes it's justified to take a stand against that.

at dinner, he puts his right hand in this shape as though as he is clicking with the mouse.

anyways, this is what happened last night:

He came to my room and asked me for help for the shutdown problem. unfortunately, he had saw me on my computer with the shutdown command and me canceling it before. (my stupid friend on MSN send me a .bat file, i tried to open it in notepad to read what it says, but i accidentally just double clicked on it and it run the shutdown command)

So I came onto his computer and pretended to check out what's wrong. I started reading the message from the shutdown window. and I emphasized the word "runescape.bat" when i read it. So i was like I can't help with it, and I told him according to the message, the problem comes from that file. The computer shutdown, and after we restarted it, he went to that directory and deleted the file, and then the computer shutsdown again, and we restarts the computer and this time is no more shutdown.

This morning, now that he knows that runescape have a virus, he still played runescape, when i asked him why he played it, he said that he knows how to get rid of the virus, no worries >.>

Anyways, now i just did something even more horrible I created a "virus" and put it onto his computer. The "virus" will at random times open up internet browser and goes to "www.runescape.com" and will at random times pop up a message saying "Please check out our new update at www.runescape.com" and sometimes initiate shutdown with the same message or freeze up the computer or log the user off.

I hope he quits runescape this time, or i'll really destroy his computer>.>

What if he read this? Wouldn't that ruin the whole point? At any rate, you could have made runescape.com redirect to any site of your choosing (this could be much more scarring and would encourage rapid quitting of Runescape).

Good Metallica song by the way..

I'd call it showing tough love, not being evil. If his addiction is as bad as you say it is, he won't quit cold turkey. He'd have to find a hobby in real life to slowly take his mind out of the game until eventually the next time he logs on he finds it boring and decideds not to play. Doesn't have to be an athletic hobby if he's not built for it. Maybe he can learn to work with cars. Or learn to play an instrument. Again, you're not evil at all. It's called being a responsible older brother. If only other addicted Maplers' parents(or siblings) had the capacity to do what you did to their own kids. You're a hero IMO.Shine
