Laptop backlight shuts off...and stays off
#1
So I bought a new laptop recently and it works great...except for one thing that's really bothering me. If I unplug the computer while it is in standby, the backlight shuts off completely. When I turn the computer back on, everything works fine, but no amount of adjusting power options and brightness settings will coax the backlight to turn back on. The only way to fix the problem is to restart the computer. Any ideas as to the source of the problem? I already tried a few power settings but they didn't fix the issue.

Specs if relevant:
Model: HP Pavilion dv6
Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
OS: W7 Home Premium

check to see what power plan it's on when it comes out of stand-by, it might just be that it doesn't switch back to the power plan you had it on and you have to do it.

Mine turns off until I put my power plug back in. Double check the power plan, and fiddle with it for awhile. There is the general power plan setup and then there is the more advanced one usually.

Did you try to turn off powermanagement completely, on everything, everywhere (also BIOS)?

Second thing: I know there's an option in WinXP (in device manager) if you look at "properties" of a device, you can choose "allow windows to turn off this device during standby". I don't know Win7, so I can't help you there further... Sad
