Best video software?
#1
Took a look at Fraps, did several test runs with it on LoL, and it surprisingly works like a charm at 30 fps! (without recording, game runs at 60 fps during light to moderate actions) The quality of the videos are also fairly acceptable; better than live-streams, but probably worse than HD, not sure (1680x1050, just over 1 GB, 30 seconds). My hopes to make game videos is a lot closer.

However, I'm hoping to have several options when doing some production, and I would like to hear some opinions. I'm looking for screen capture software, and video editing software. What Fraps offers is acceptable, but one complaint I already have is whether it can record desktop actions.

As far as video editing software goes, Sony Vegas is the best I've heard of.

Vegas and Premiere Pro are the standards.

I prefer Vegas myself. I used Premiere Pro for school projects.

I'm kinda adding on to this question, since I'm playing through a Mac now, I've been looking for a nice high quality screencaping program. Take Spadow's screenshots for instance, they are INSANELY clear and crisp. I just need something I can ss with. Gotta blackmail my friends somehow (:

So youre looking for a high quality ss program that you can use to blackmail your friends?

You probably need to compress it after taking a capture. Also if you are really serious, and your computer and handle it, turn off your vsync and record at 60fps or something higher, this way you can slow your game down and get all the critical frames if say something spectacular happened and you want to play it back in slowmo.

Adobe After Effects is good for effects, post-production, etc.

Also, I'm not sure what format Fraps saves to, but I think it's lossless? Another lossless codec for you to use is Huffyuv: http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.edu...ffyuv.html

Fraps saves to BMP, JPEG, or PNG formats. I always set it to save to PNG, which is lossless and fairly small.

I don't know anything about Macs but don't they have a built-in print screen key?

Also, this site seems to have a lot of programs you could use http://www.pure-mac.com/screen.html

We don't have a built in print screen key. We have to press Command + Shift + 3 to ... and since i'll be playing on my windows partion, I won't be able to use that same command again.
Thanks for the site dusk!
