Installation keeps freezing my computer
#1
Hey all,

Firstly my computer isn't terrible, it has been able to handle MS before. I uninstalled MS and now trying to reinstall it so I finally get that 2gig install file on my computer.

When I try to open it up it freezes my computer and I cannot do anything, even task manager won't load up so I can shut down the installation. Its so bad that I have to manually hold the off switch and shut down the computer.

I tried doing it 2 ways, getting the file from MS via their exe dl manager and doing the straight dl way. I dont want to waste more bandwith >_> and Im trying to find out how I can install the game and not have my computer freeze up so badly like that.

Thanks in advance

You can just get the necessary game files in your hard drive without installation. This process is direct copy/paste, so if your comp can't handle that, trash it.

If you find me a host to share 2Gb file, I'll shave some time off to upload the files for you, else, if you have a friend nearby who plays Maple, grab a USB, head over and copa pasta.

What OS are you using? Windows 7 sometimes has 'frozen' installations or program uninstalls that simply require a bit more time than usual.

How long do you let Windows stay frozen while attempting to open the exe?

You could have a bad hard drive or it could be an issue of running a disk check to seal up bad clusters. Or your Windows Installer could be corrupt. The easiest attempt is downloading the latest windows installer. This may be an ironic endeavor however.

Are you able to open other exe installation programs correctly? Or is it specifically the maple installer that is giving you problems?

@ Kalovale, Thanks for your offer :3 I have another computer so I'll do a copypasta from there, if it doesn't work I'll let you know

@ Rayhovite, Other programs work fine, I'm still running XP. Actually now that you mention it, it might be a bad harddrive >_> I keep hearing loud noises and grinding sounds on this laptop. Its been doing this for a long time. When I first start up the computer it makes such a loud buzzing noise for around 30 seconds. So loud that people in other rooms can hear it.

I think the longest I let windows stay frozen was around 15-20 mins before giving up. Its funny because my 10 year old computer started up the installer within a second or two and the one im currently on seems to not be able to handle it.

I'll try doing the copying thing, if it doesn't work I'll post back here lol. Thanks for your help btw you two.

does your laptop have a particular model number?

Loud buzzing noises usually indicate a fan that is incredibly dusty and or near failing.

Put your ear close to the laptop when you turn it on to see if the buzz is coming from your speakers or if it sounds like it's coming from elsewhere, indicating a mechanical issue.

The fact that other programs run fine shows a hard drive problem tho. Hard drives do make a grinding noise when they are crapping out.

First thing's first though. Clean out your laptop from dust. Have someone help you. Get some compressed air and try to open the laptop from the side if you can, to get as much dust out. If this doesn't clear the problem, run a disk check on XP. Here is a link:

This will help buy you time in case your hard drive is near failing and you have to replace it.
