Hello.
Some months ago, I bought a new computer, an Asus K52JC. It has Windows 7 on it, but my issues are a little different than compatibility ones.
Because, yeah, since a little after I bought it I've been experiencing all kinds of issues with MapleStory, apparently related to my graphics card.
I'll explain. First of all, in Device Manager -> Display adapters, there are two adapters. The first one, which is the main, is Intel HD Graphics, while the second one is NVIDIA GeForce 310M. And there comes the first problem. I didn't experience this when I first bought the computer and it let me play normally, but now, whenever I enable both of the display drivers and open MapleStory, the computer FREEZES. As in, I can't do anything anymore and the computer doesn't answer, so I have to reboot MANUALLY. It doesn't even show the mouse when I open it. The screen just turns into a different tonality of black and the computer freezes. I try alt-tabbing, ALT+F4ing, but nothing. It just doesn't work.
So one day I decided to try disabling the NVIDIA driver, and it worked. MapleStory started working correctly again and I could play normally.
BUT. Another problem. When I play for a long time, the display driver "goes crazy". As in, the game freezes and map objects, maplers, and all kinds of stuff start disappearing and appearing continuosly on the screen. Eventually, the game will also crash after a while you let this happen. The only way I found around that is Alt+tabbing and going back there, or switching to windowed mode (or the other way around), which seems to "resolve" the situation.. for a few seconds. Yeah, because, when something like that starts happening, even if you alt+tab and back, and everything seems back to normal, it'll start doing it again after a few seconds, making the game literally unplayable.
It also happened that when it did that, it gave me an error message on tray saying "the video driver stopped working so it was restored". That usually solved the situation for a little more than a few seconds. But then, it started doing it again.
If you think they're part of the compatibility issues, you're most likely wrong. In fact, I wanted to try if it did the same thing on KMS, where they have a fully-compatible Windows 7 client. Result? Yes, it does. The issues are kind of different, but it's the same s'hit. The map objects don't start appearing and disappearing, but the screen goes completely dark and flashes, until I Alt+Tab. That resolves the problem for a few minutes, but after that, it starts doing it again.
One interesting thing to note is that, when I tried switching to windowed mode on KMS while having that problem, it didn't resolve the problem, but, instead, a message appeared saying that the "Windows Aero interface stopped working" and asking me if I wanted to disable it or keep using it. I chose disable, thinking that might have caused the issues, but I was wrong, as the game kept giving the same problems.
In fact, it became COMPLETELY unplayable. I'm kind of desperate now, seeing how not even a Windows 7-compatible client would resolve my issue. It's probably something related to the graphic card, which I hope isn't not compatible with MapleStory.
I almost forgot I also tried the solution in THIS thread for the "Black Flickering Screen/Outright Crash" issue. Apparently, yeah, my graphic card (the Intel HD Graphics, not the NVIDIA one) was outdated. I updated it, rebooted, tried again, but, with disappointment, I kept getting the same problem. Nothing changed.
Oh, I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64, if that can be of any help.
I hope someone will be able to help me. I had to make a dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows XP on this computer, because that issue makes playing MapleStory on Windows 7 literally impossible after a while. I was somehow able to find audio and video drivers for XP for this computer (the audio one was the hardest of them all - I had a really hard time finding that one as it wasn't made for Windows XP), and, until now, my playing experience on Windows XP has been the smoothest one I've ever experienced (well, obviously, since right now GMS is only compatible with that OS and not newer ones). So I doubt it's even the graphic card the problem. Still, I don't want to have to use XP forever. I just prefer Windows 7 in every way possible, and I wish I could still play on it, too.
Maybe it could be software on Windows 7? But what?
I hope someone will be able to help me.
