Help building a computer.
#1
Yeah, this is another one of those threads , my brother has a birthday this thursday and I'm gettin him a desktop PC ( no screen or keyboard he already has those ) just the pc itself. I keep going over budget trying to make him a decent PC, he uses it for work/games , I'm tryin to build a rig that can run many programs like MAYA , 3DS , photoshop ( with dozens of those huge TIFF files open at once ) at once without slowing down and also a PC that can run modern games ( not necessarily on the highest settings ) without going under a tollerable FPS .

my budget is roughly 2600 Israeli shekels = 717.6364 U.S. dollars
and PC parts over here cost roughly 20% more then in the states.

I was lookin for a PC with a
quad core processor
4GB DDR II or III
HDD size dosn't matter
and a Graphics card in the vicinity of a Geforce gtx 260 , however that model alone costs 1000 Shekels over here so yeah, it really eats away at the budget making the other parts hard to fit into the budget, the PC dosen't HAVE to have parts in this area but thats the general idea.

something that can run games on medium settings for the next 2 years or so and thats all that really matters XD.

thanks ~ I Really mean it.

Does he need a new case? If not, what form factor is it?
OS?

What's all in his old system so I know what can be salvaged.

only thing to salvage from the old system is a 500mb ram card and a really old useless graphics card, the case is a wreck. as for OS ( Windows 7 32bit Ultimate )

if someone could let me know if these parts would all work together / if I forgot a critical part I'd really appreciate it, I'm sure looking through all this mess of a post is a headache but I really need an answer for this, I gotta go buy a PC tommorow.

the total for these parts comes out to . 2815 Israeli shekels = 781.35955 U.S. dollars

I don't claim to be as pro as Fiel or the other people like Skylit, so feel free to correct me, but...

Your Motherboard doesn't have a PCI Express 2.0x16 slot, while your graphics card needs it.

It's also important to pay attention to the form factor (physical dimension standards) for certain components. As far as I can tell, the MOBO and case are Micro ATX, but I have no idea on the fan.

His mobo has a PCI-E x16.

Don't bother getting the fan (which looks like it's supposed to go on the CPU from the description). As long as you get a standard box version of the CPU, the heatsink and fan will come with it.

Get the 512MB version of the GTS 220 and save yourself 120 shekels. A card of that caliber won't even be able to use all of the video RAM - even with the 512. The extra VRAM is wasted.

You said your RAM was "Kingston value 2gb x2". That's all good and well, but is it DDR2? Your mobo needs DDR2 memory.

I don't see a CD/DVD drive. You need one of those?

Yeah Fiel its DDR2 and as for the CD/DVD drive I just didn't list it because I figured its not that important to list.
but asides from that would you say this is a solid ehh.. build? xD that can run most things, or do you think I should maybe get a better graphics card or something. I'm not good at building computers and I never trust the sales rep over here.
