3d dot game heroes is a cute tribute game about all of those really old rpg / adventure games (mostly found references to dragon quest and the entire game plays like zelda 1). it's for the ps3
a once bustling 2d kingdom of dotnia has become dull and boring after the last hero defeated the onyx king. as a solution, the king decided it was time for an upgrade, and since 3d is all the rage these days, he raises the world up from its flatness. briefly after, the dark bishop fuelle steals the dark orb which contains the onyx kings soul and abducts the princess iris...
you play as the hero of your choosing -- male or female, dog or dragon... or as of today, sackboy. with your trusty sword in hand you must travel in search of the 6 orbs and their sages that will create the light orb, the only thing capable of stopping the dark orb.
that is pretty much the entire story.
as i stated previously, it plays a lot like the old zelda games but it has a ton of side missions and interaction with characters as well as a massive variety of enormous swords and a ton of useless items (and lots and lots of trophies!) you get the boomerang, bow, bomb and of course grapple along with a bestiary. but this isn't any normal bestiary... you must whack monsters to get their entry. some monsters take a lot of whacks.
i just started playing this recently even though it's been out for a while and my timing couldn't have been better, as it actually came out with it's very first patch today that included many new character models (and sackboy like i said) as well as making the difficulty for some of the mini-games a little easier.
