If my guess is correct, and based on the files distributed with MapleStory and used by it, GMS is coded using C++, .NET, and Shockwave/Flash. Possibly Nexon is using a compiler like Visual Studios .NET (2002 distribution for Windows XP originally)

If? IF!? Of course your assertion is correct. It's no mystery why Maple is so easily hacked time after time. Windows XP has been notorious for vulnerabilities. If you keep coding on a platform known for vulnerabilities, you will be open to those vulnerabilities as well. That's why it's essential for Nexon KR to recode the game from scratch, just like other MMO developers have had to do to close up serious exploits. Obviously it won't solve hacking forever, but at least Maplers would have some breathing room in between exploits. There was a point in the hacking scene where you could easily find a new memory address to hack once that particular address was 'patched'. It is no surprise why GMS is hacked to hell and back so often, on top of regular glitches/exploits people do without hacking.

If this game is ever to stand a chance in the coming years, it will have to be recoded.

You appear to be confused, mistaken or misinformed here.
The OS the client runs has absolutely nothing to do with how secure it is. The security issues in MapleStory are 100% due to the servers themselves allowing the client to tell the server what is happening, when the client is supposed to be nothing more than a dummy terminal interpreting what the server tells it is happening. The entire core logic the game was built on is flawed and has been a known game design flaw for decades. Any designer with half an ounce of brain knows that in a client->server relationship the server is the brain, not the client because the end user has absolute control over what the client tries to say/do. You can't have multiple subjective realities trying to assert truth over the server - The server needs to be an objective definition of reality or everything goes out the window.

You are right.

I think I've spent too much time at technet reading up on vulnerabilities that I forgot how MS was designed. I looked at MS vulnerabilities in a similar way that you treat other program vulnerabilities, which can be traced to the platform they were used to code.

lack of knowledge on how a Pokemon name is spelled has become apparent

It was a simple typo and out of all that he posted that's what you decide to bag him on. You make me laugh Biggrin

He's made that typo three times, it irks me.

I'm looking through these threads now, it wasn't 100% "nexon sucks".

While it sounds fine to many, an if is not something that fits the plate of some Nexon sheeps.

There is only one thing I actually would try to question Nexon for... how is MapleStory compiled and what options are used during compiling it? Becasue 32-bit apps run in WOW64 mode on 64-bit system, perhaps it's something to do with that 32-bit compatibility layer and what all support is actually used in the OS itself. From data I've been gathering Vista and 7 32-bit systems don't have as many issues with Maple.
