Recent nVidia GeForce GTX 275 Vista Driver

So, I rarely update my computer since more often than not, the system updates wind up slowing my system down, and now that I'm doing a round of updates I've come to notice this one. I admit I've had a little bit of an issue lately about something with my graphics driver failing about two or more hours into TF2, so I am curious if this update is something I should trust and consider.

The reason I'm hesitant is that the last time I did an update through Windows update for the graphics driver on my last card (got my current one last Christmas), it completely and irreversibly screwed up the resolution on my secondary monitor, an HDTV. It would only display an exact resolution and never a scaled resolution to fit the screen no matter what I did from that point on. I tried older versions of the driver, and all sorts of software, but nothing wound up working so I lived with it till that card died. (Ironically it had a warranty on it that I noticed only after I bought the new one... card still for sale.) It is connected via S-Video then through a component conversion.

I don't use my secondary monitor that much since it requires my receiver to be on at the same time, but I still use it so I don't want to risk having that happen again.

tl;dr Any reviews for the 8/25/10 nVidia GeForce GTX 275 Vista 64-Bit Driver that leads me to trust it?

I'm aware of that, but despite trying to use the driver's own resolution settings, I could never restore the settings after that last time. Since it didn't want to scale at all to begin with, I initially just had a custom resolution set up that matched the size of the screen. But after that update that screwed me, it would look like it would be set up properly, then when saved end up throwing a good inch outside of the screen on the top and bottom.

Since I've gotten my new card (Old one was also nVidia) I have not done any of the automatic Windows updates for the graphics card that are listed and have been able to use the custom resolution solution as I had before.

I'll try checking to see if the nVidia site has any sort of update listed later, but what gets me is that the driver listed in the windows update list has no other information, so I'd have nothing to compare it to to see if it was the proper item to begin with.

EDIT: I'll double check that "no information" thing as well since the help link always fails due to Firefox being my default browser.

Are you sure that you are correctly removing the driver when you uninstall? Just running the uninstallation routine is insufficient...

This I will disagree with. You should be reading the release notes. No point updating the driver if the changes don't apply to you. (Aside: On *nix, using a repo is recommended because Nvidia/ATI irrevocably replace libGL -- causes problems when you switch back to a FOSS driver to debug.)
